Looking for advice for buying some gear for triathlons.

1. I've only done one sprint.
2. I want to improve, but I am mostly doing them for fun.
3. Since I am a beginner, I want to spend as little as possible. (I did my first one in a bathing suit, running shorts and a t-shirt on my hybrid bike).

It appears I am borderline medium/large. Large might be a bit loose in the waste and below. Medium might be a bit tight in the chest.

Thanks in advance.

I guess "Outdoor" is a bit narrower than I thought.

Post this on the OT?

You will get more responses on the OT. I'm one of the few OBers that does an occasional Tri.

I say two piece, not the wrestler suit variety that some wear, especially if you aren't proportioned like a typical triathlete.

I have 2XU shorts with minimal padding that I can Swim, bike and run in. In the heat I wear a sleeveless quick dry LSU shirt. If its colder I dress for the weather. My next one is at The Hangout in Gulf Shores and I am doing the sprint.

I use a road bike with aerobars. A hybrid will be a lot slower, but slicks and aerobars will help. If you continue, a faster bike (road or tri/time trial)should be a priority.

Get quick tie elastic shoe laces to save a few seconds in transition, they are comfortable too..

I used to be a tri-athlete. Fishing while drinking a beer, and smoking a cig. I had to cut one activity out as I grew older. Fishing was slowing down my drinking and smoking.

May be too late. The first one was really fun.

I'll never quit drinking but I've definitely had to slow it down because it was cutting into my duck hunting and fishing time.

I haven't done one in a couple years but here's another vote for separates. Spend some $$$ on good tri shorts, you will spend a lot of time in them while training. My favorite of the 3-4 brands that I have tried is louis garneau, but you will have to find what fits you best. shop around on the internet for close outs on last years styles.

I wouldn't normally link texags on here, but the health and fitness board over there has a bunch of tri athletes and are pretty friendly towards beginner questions LINK
