Between those two I think it's just the stock. I don't know about vs the light version.

BIL shoots 300 win mag
I shoot 30-06
It may be the difference in bullets but BIL tracks almost every deer he shoots due to a lack of bullet expansion before complete pass through due to faster bullet;
I usually drop 'em where they stand due to maximum expansion of bullet and energy transfer into the deer with the bullet found in the off side skin of the animal...

Generally faster bullets expanded quicker and more violently. I would have to assume it has more to do with bullet construction

What 2 rounds do y'all use? I was looking at the 300wm to compliment my .308.

If that's the case, he needs to just find a lighter bullet with a softer tip meant to expand faster. Shooting a heavy bullet with a more of a FMJ tip will certainly go through the deer faster with less expansion.

There are some T3x on sale on this site...some of the prices are close to the original t3 sale. Like the laminated 270win is 699 vs 709 for the t3x. Some prices are more. This place has more stainless versions.

LINK

edit the T3 lite in 223 on the original link is 499 and on this new link its 489 for the t3x.

Bullet performance is a function of:
-impact velocity. All things being equal, bullets penetrate less as velocity increases.
-construction of the bullet. Fragile bullets expand more easily than do more stoutly constructed bullets.
-bullet weight. All things being equal, a heavier bullet penetrates deeper than a lighter bullet.
