My 45 came in today after a 65 and a 30 last week. I just got off the phone with her and had to answer that very question.

I was thinking hard on getting the 300 WM but going to hold off and get my long range big boy down the road.

Brother is getting one though. Would yall recommend the 270WSM or the 7Mag for all around deer and elk gun?

He is a smaller fella though, so now thinking maybe 270 WM.

How much more recoil is the 7M over a 270 Win Mag?

I got the 270 wsm. But honestly if I were doing it again, I would get a 7mag for ammo options. Ballistics are pretty close. 270wsm is a tad flatter.

7mag definitely has more recoil. But it should be negligible

Just bought one 30-06. Seriously. Was looking for my first rifle and this is the best deal I've run into for a long time.

Hopefully I don't get stuck like the Drake jackets.

Academy is selling their Tikka's for 599.98. Many stores in Baw Country have in different calibers also. I picked up a .308 in Tuscaloosa!

I'd been looking for a Tikka t3 lite in .308 for awhile but this deal has me thinking it might be worth going woth a different caliber to get the walnut stock. Should I go 30-06 or 7mag? Mostly deer hunting out to 200 yards.

30-06

That 338 WM is hard to pass up for a Western rifle... damn it... don't need another rifle... damn it...

.308 is the perfect caliber for that and the .308 is suppose to me more accurate than a .30-06

I like 308 because it's becoming for popular than 30-06. 30-06 is flatter but to 200 yards it's irrelevant. The recoil difference is the 308s biggest advantage. No need for 7mag

Sooo few questions. You know just out of curiosity

Forester > hunter? It's just the different stock right?

300 wm or 300 wsm?

Assuming either of those calibers haveing the extra weight of the wood stock is better than the lite version (that are not in stock on sale) for hunting weather box or climber.

Skipping the 30-06 for one of the above wise if one would already have a 308 and 270wsm?

Forester has a cheek piece, Hunter doesn't. If same price and caliber, I would go with Foerster.

Just preference. Win mag throws the same bullet about 80fps fast than wsm. And is more available ammo wise.

If I am buying a magnum, I would rather have a wood stock...but I always prefer wood, (twss). Its usually about $150 more than the lite, so it's a no brainer to me.

300wm as someone who owns a wsm tikka. WM is more available and cheaper than wsm and the only reason to go wsm is for short actions but Tikka's are all long action guns.

Yeah short mags are kinda pointless on tikkas unless you just like the caliber.

Damn, I thought the hunter was the only one in stock.

Now I am back thinking of getting one. Either 300wm for and elk gun or a 25-06.

Not sure I want a walnut stock while im trudging all over the back country so leaning towards the 25-06.

Both .300wm and .25-06 can kill an elk. Toss up at that point. .300wm will be more forgiving as shot placement goes fwiw.
