Tiger shrimp feed on other shrimp, could throw off the delicate ecosystem.

Yep. Feed on brown, white, and even their own species. I think it's going to do more harm than good, but we will just have to wait and see.

Something tells me that the Shrimping industry will definitely tell us that it's dome more harm than good and that's why shrimp are going up in price.

They have been farming these shrimp in So. Texas for years. They escape into the gulf, nothing new other than they are spreading though out the gulf. I've eaten the farmed raised several time. Not bad but not as good as wild shrimp. I would like to taste one caught in the wild. This will not be a good thing over time.

I don't think Texas farms black tigers. They farm vannamei shrimp in texas which are pacific white shrimp.

From what I read, these black tigers escaped from shrimp farms in the carribean and/or south america.

almost $6 a pound i think
Deceiving price since they can weigh a pound each. I'll take it cause it's a lot quicker to peel a pound when it's one shrimp.

Black tigers are a lot higher than $6 a pound and especially for the size in the picture. You are probably looking at a $10+/lb shrimp in the picture if you bought the ones that come from China.

Actually the last 5-10 or so years, local shrimp have been at an all time low in price (without inflation even factored in---with inflation factored in it would be way worse) due to the flood of cheap asian import shrimp.

And fisherman have never received government subsidies. Some have received government tariff money but that revenue was generated by the tariff money off of the 1 billion+ pounds of imports every year.

That's what I'm talking about. These tiger shrimp may be bigger, but they don't know that brown shrimp play for keeps.

They sure as heck used to farm Tiger shrimp in So. Texas, I worked with some of those folks. I was an independent seafood (shrimp) broker for 25 years. Now weather they still do or not I don't know. I'm happily retired.
They also farmed Vannamei shrimp as well( don't think they ever made any money)this specie also has escaped into the gulf waters. Last I heard they were farming Vannamei in China.

I had wild caught tiger shrimp when I went to China. It tasted good, but they called them Prawns. I was a bit skeptical until the waiter brought the plate out, I just remember they were awesome.

never said they did..., but if the tiger shrimp decimate the industry, the gov't WILL be handing out checks...bank on it...
