Well thats the problem, and at the end of the day I wouldn't want to spend my hard earned money on a place where I didn't see deer or where people shot everything that walked.
Well unfortunately these clubs are the only ones I can afford to hunt in. Thanks to the growing popularity of trophy hunting all the other land in my area has been scooped up by people with a lot more money than me

I know the guy who runs idle wild deer research facility. I'm sure it's somewhere on the Internet. I go by what he tells me since he does it for a living.

That whole study is correct, but you have to keep in mind they have absolute control over the entire deer population. I'm a firm believer that deer management is simply not feasible in some locations. I've seen it work and I've seen it have no effect on what was seen and killed.

As for the doe thing, I just find it comical when places put in point restrictions and never even consider the doe being a big part of what they have. Managing your does is much more important than managing bucks, as does will stay around and will often run off their young as a way of preventing inbreeding. Most of the bucks you have will come from somewhere else.

DT, I have every rack from every buck I've ever killed mounted on driftwood from the swamp. I'm quite proud of every one of them and they all have a story with them. Killing a buck of any size here is a huge accomplishment. If it wasn't I wouldn't shoot them.

I dont think anybody is arguing that management is a bad thing. My point is that there are a lot more people with money into hunting now than there use to be.

I can tell you that in the last 10 years the deer numbers in my area are down. While killing a 130 or 140 inch deer is more common you dont see near as many in numbers. My biggest beef with management is the killing of does.

My biggest beef with it is it becoming a rich man's game as well.

I agree and at the end of the day they can afford to get the results they want quicker than the the average joe.

But I also feel that if we want or kids and grandkids to enjoy the outdoors we could all practice some type of game management so generations to come can enjoy the outdoors like we do.

There are also more people with open minds about doe harvest and age restrictions. I'm optimistic about the future. I do know one wealthy land owner who does not allow does to be shot. I just shake my head. He just doesn't get it.

ehhhh, noble idea but our parents/grandparents hunted by if its brown its down too the T. They did it for food. It was not uncommon for them to take 8+ deer a year. Management wont hurt for sure but I dont think we could kill off all the deer just by hunting

for the country as a whole I agree, but there are areas that have been shot out or are close to being shot out.

If someone brought this in at our ranch I can guarantee you it would be their last hunt. People complain constantly about not seeing any big bucks etc. if you spend all the money and work all year why shoot one like this? May as well hunt public land and save the money.

Im fighting one of these battles with my stepdad right now on our private property. We have a big bodied buck that I have seen a couple times and both horns are broke off. He says he is going to shoot him if he sees him and I cant understand why. I say wait till next year when he has his whole rack back.

Also he doesnt need meat. He has three that were killed in Missouri already this year.

fwiw I've been around this all my life, mostly from dog hunters (not saying that to piss you off downshift, its just the people who do it where I'm from). They won't touch a doe with a 10 ft pole, but if a cowhorn tries to slip out his arse is grass. Then these guys wonder why seeing a basket 8 is a miracle.

eta: I've never really pushed the issue, since they're all on private land anyway, but I think it stems from most of these guys growing up hunting when every doe was needed to breed, and seeing any deer was rare.
