Carry permit or no permit, private citizens have no duty to apprehend or detain fleeing felons.

Be a good witness, and then go home to your family. Let the professionals and their buddies handle this stuff.

Read about that earlier. Man was trying to do a good deed and ended up costing him his life. You are absolutely right, he overreacted and paid the price. Hope others will see and learn by his actions.

First comment

quote:

Good samaritan was chasing someone fleeing.. No case.. Guy in the car had no clue who customer was.. he wasnt a cop.. so its self defense.. Guy lost his life for a gun nut radical idea he could do something old wild west style and lost.. Typical gun nut style

Brings up a good point. The shooter could easily claim self defense

um, i doubt that will hold up in court after he just got done shooting another person, and was in the act of fleeing the scene.

So what should he have done? Let the other guy kill him?

You can use deadly force to stop a threat but not to shoot someone trying to escape. ( some exceptions)

Change it up. Had the good Samaritan walked outand shot the guy in the head before he could drive off would it have been justified?

Im not saying the self defense claim is right, just playing devils advocate and speaking in the way lawyers think.

Oh, no need to backtrack or apologize. The way that it is reported it was self defense.

It is over at this point. Let it be.

He may be off to harm others, but the present danger is passed. An individual is only going to make things worse at this point.

Eff that DH that wrote that comment.

I hope he ties a kerosene-soaked rag around his ankle so the ants don't crawl up and eat his candyass.

So here's my question.

So your standing in the line at walgreens, getting ready to check out, and all of a sudden a guy walks in, starts making a commotion, and then 15 seconds later shoots somebody. What do you do?

A.) Find cover, Draw your weapon, assess, and fire. Seeing as you have already figured out that 1.) This isn't a cop, and 2.) he just possible shot and killed somebody for no reason. 3.) You could possibly be next.

B.) Take off running to the back of the store and hide?

C.) Draw weapon, run to the back of the store/find cover, and wait for him to shoot again to determine if this guy is actually coming in this store to hurt more than just one person.

I am trying to find cover as I call the police. If the guy starts to point the gun in my direction, at that point I am in fear for my life and I will drop the guy.

So, find cover(haul ace to the back of the store), draw weapon on the move, dial 911.

Sounds like a good plan to me.

and if he makes his way to the back of the store near you, toast em.

But here's my second senario...

This guy has already shot one person, you have moved to the back of the store, and are on the phone with 911, when more shots ring out. aka, people are getting shot.

A.)Do you then move in and find this guy and possible stop him from killing more innocent people?

B.)Or do you say screw em, and find the emergency exit in the pharmacy department and roll out?

I have no idea what I would do, I would hate to have to kill somebody, but I would hate to hear that he shot 4 more people, when I could have possibly help prevent it.

Do you have a monkey in your pocket that you speak for?

I respect the shite out of that guy. He stepped up and did what he felt needed to be done.

Ya'll can Monday Morning QB this but it took a lot of courage to stand up and try to stop the guy.

Condolences to his family.

Courage and intelligence must meet in the middle.

In that situation, you don't point a weapon at somebody who has already shot somebody, and not have already made up your mind that the second that gun comes up and your on target, the trigger has to be pulled. Because if not, then you get shot.

If the guy would have ran out and tried to get in a fist fight with the guy to stop him, instead of pulling a gun, this may have turned out a little differently. As soon as you threaten somebody with a weapon, who also has a weapon, expect bullets to fly.

Agree

Starting a fist fight with a guy who just shot someone is probably not a good idea.

I just don't agree with the "This Is Not Why We Carry Guns" and just be a good witness. Screw That! I'm all for citizens standing up and protecting each other and taking an active role in protecting their community.
