Which one should I get for basic usage and how much money are we talking here?

I wanna be able to video my deer hunts and take it fishing too.

I have one, I've never taken it out the box. Save your money and not buy one.

I bought a knock-off Emerson brand one, just to see how much I would use it. Pretty decent for the money. Really thought I'd use it often. So far, maybe took it in the woods twice.

ETA: I'm not saying you won't enjoy/use yours, I just haven't

Because it's just another step that is not necessary. The video quality past 30 feet is horrible. You can't see anything.

Have one use all the time Hero3 Black & works great......don't know about the 30 feet limitation, works fine for longer than that for me.

Admittedly most are fishing/gator hunting and not in woods. I find they are better than the knockoffs or the WASP.

Just my opinion.

For fishing, the GoPro is excellent!

For hunting, especially deer, especially with a rifle, it is useless. If you're bow hunting you can change the FOV and it works decent but you're better off getting a $200-400 real camera for videoing hunts

I mostly use my gopro now for filming me while the big camera faces forward. If i get cocky, i put it on a tree where i think the action will be and turn it on and off with the remote.

Check out Tachyon. Considerably less expensive and better setups for mounts.

I disagree. You just have to use some imagination. Get some video on your way to your stand. Setting up. Don't just get hours of waiting. If you "set up" the hunt on video, then take out the waiting, you end up with a pretty watchable video.

Here's one (not me, just something I found with a google search) that shows what you can do. Yes, you are correct that you don't see a lot of detail of the deer -- but for a hunting vid -- this one is pretty watchable.

Editing the video's -- cutting out dead time, adding transition effects and music -- is very easy with Microsoft Movie Maker.

ETA: the guy tries too hard at being fratstar hunter bro, but the shot on the deer is legit.
