Backpacker has all their 2014 11 ft Revolutions marked down to $1,400. FYI.

I think Pack and Paddle has an upcoming demo day if you're willing to make the drive.

Anyone try out the 2015 Hobies with the new seat?

I've demoed the new Outback a few times now and the new PA's a couple times as well.

Outback: Seat is lightyears better than what they had before. Lots of adjustment that can be made to get you comfortable. The high position didn't make the kayak noticeably unstable. MUCH easier to stand up in now with the flattened floor space, and the area around the peddles remained above the water line which made for a drier ride. Only issue noticed was the mirage drive has a little "play" with the new mold; its not as tight a fit as before. Whether this really makes a difference remains to be seen.

PA: The new side rails are nice; the rod holders that work with them are much better than what the older PA's have. (which is nothing) The new drop down skeg makes the PA an absolute BEAR to turn... you essentially need to bring it up every time you need to turn, or else you won't make it! The new rubber pockets are much better than what was on there previously.

Good news is that supposedly the new rails and pockets should be backward compatible with the 2013-2014 PA's.

Haven't demoed any of the other boats.

I might just put a Jackson seat in my 14 outback

FWIW, Jackson now has 3 versions of their Elite Seat, so shop carefully. I think the 1.0 and 2.0 versions have the same feet but the 3.0 has completely different (adjustable) feet. I think all the seats feel the same except that the 1.0 has square back, which limits turning and reaching behind you. The 2.0 and 3.0 are rounded backs. The inflatable lumbar supports feel the same, they just picked up a licensing agreement with Thermarest to put their name on it.

I made the Hobie leap on a 2015 outback yesterday. I added the rectangular hatch, anchor trolley and sailing rudder, any suggestions for other must have addons?
GingerMerkin and I are headed to Fourchon/Leeville Sunday to christen the new yak, and I think my old launch point (the radio tower near Fourchon on the way to Grand Isle) now falls in that shitty "private land" area. Any suggestions for launch points?

I'm closing in on to buying a new yak and I've narrowed it down to a KC and an Outback.. I know you have an outback and have used the KC's before. How stable is the outback compared to the KC's? How shallow of water can the outback get into? basically just looking for a comparison between the two

Pedal > Paddle

I've read good things about the KC, but I will take Pedal any day.

I saw they have accessories out now for the extended rails. I would maybe add a forward rod holder or two on there. Park-it-pole if you don't have one.

only thing I'm worried about with the pedal is getting into shallow water. I know you can pull the pedals out and use a paddle but I'm curious just how shallow of water you can get into with the outback

You don't have to pull them out. If you're going to be standing and poling (or paddling), there is a cord that holds the fins against the hull. At that point, it has capabilities of any kayak that is a similar size.

I can get shallow but gotta pull fina out or hold them up against hull

Stable enough to stand anytime I want. Not as stable as KC

I bought the 8' version yesterday, trying to figure out the best way to connect it to the anchor trolley, as there is only one small hole in the handle/mud foot.

Are you talking about the H-Rail system? Will that fit on an outback?

We audibled the game plan away from Fourchon and are going to try launching at Bason's out of Galliano.

I leave my Park-it-Pole floating in the ring on the anchor trolley. It just floats alongside the boat. Underway, the ring is at the top of the pole, just below the foot. When I anchor, I just slide the pole through the ring until I can get it vertical, then in the mud it goes.

I was talking about the H-Rail system. I was thinking Pro Angler, my mistake. But I still like having a rod holder in front, on the side of me. It's a really handy place to put a rod when you're dealing with a fish. And of course if you're ever tight lining.

Hey guys. How do y'all troll? I mean what is your set up do you have your to holder in the front. So you can see when one hits or behind and just loosen your drag? I've got a paddleboard and trying to figure how to set it up?

Hold it in one hand and pedal. You'll definitely know when a trout hits

What about for us non-yuppies paddling the old fashioned way?

Yeah I'm on a paddleboard no peddles just a paddle. I'm going to make a tackle rack to sit in the front but have to make sure it's out of the way of paddling

I'd just put it in the rod holder in front of me
