Caught this little guy on my back porch - Eastern newt I think. Haven't seen one in nearly 40 years. When I was a kid in the late 1970s, whenever we'd go to the snake farm on Hwy. 90 in Slidell we'd go snake hunting at the old rest area (across the street from the White Kitchen right by the snake farm). One day we caught a couple dozen of these. Went back years later and never saw another. Either something changed environmentally or we caught them all. Been living in Slidell for 14 years now and whenever I comb the woods here I flip over stuff, rip up rotten logs, etc. and have never seen one here til tonight.

Nice!
I'm taking delivery of this girl in a couple days - 60% Diamond-Jungle Carpet Python cross...

She should grow up to look like her mom...

I enjoy watching the color change with each shed.

That’s a cute little one. I’ve been lucky enough to see wild ones in south GA and north FL.

It was hot as you could stand it that day. We had handled him for a few minutes and put him back where we found him, and he wanted to fight and pose for pics. My sons had never seen one before, and wanted a picture.

I'm using Imgur, but I can't get it work on the iPad, just the PC. I'll post one of this one in a strike pose that's pretty good. That's the third Coachwhip we've found on that hill this year, and that one is the largest by a good bit.

Does anyone know a source for quail in South LA? My indigo is being picky and wanting to take only silversides and I was told to try day old quail legs. Looking for a source locally instead of ordering online first.

Sorry herp fellas, after taking this pic and pulling a half mile down the road, I told myself that I'd hear in a week or two a neighboring leasee's kid got snake bit. So I turned around and put him down.

I understand you acted in a matter that you thought would keep others safe. I don't condemn you for shooting a snake. However, there are likely more in the woods in the near vicinity. I don't think you realistically decreased the chance of a kid getting bit by a snake. Maybe let the next one live?

leopard frogs are so cool. I kept one in an old aquarium for a few weeks when I was in high school. Ferocious predators, thank the Lord they aren't our size

Walking in my yard heard a commotion in the trees. Looked up and saw a huge rat snake with a bird food stuffed squirrel. Squirrel was too heavy to eat in the trees so snake dropped to the ground, Photos and links to the action
