I am always chomping at the bit for deer season to start, but I'm glad ours doesn't start until fall when the temps are cooler.

Sitting in a deerstand in this weather here is not high on my list of things to do.

I will hang him in the walk in cooler for 3 weeks to age the deer before skinning him out. Removing the legs is standard procedure.

They age better with the skin off imo.

Cool. Great first buck. Of course the real trophy from that hunt isn't the horns.

But you already know that.

Interesting. Good job.

We always skinned them out before hanging in the cooler. Why leave the skin on?

Yeah, I couldn't carry enough water with me to survive a hunt in August.

Many Many Congrats brother.

The great smile tells it all. Thanks you for teaching your son to hunt and keeping a great American tradition alive. The rewards of that and spending quality time with him will last a lifetime.

I encourage you do a little horn mount or something for him. He will undoubtedly kill bigger deer but he will always prize that first deer with his dad. Every time he looks at it he will remember the accomplishment with pride and it will remind him of you and the bond you share.
