We trap them, then tie them up and bring them home to clip the males, worm them all, and feed them for a month. All eat the same after this. No big weights to brag about here. We dont feed year round and border national forest on 3 sides so no one else does either. Still fun as hell wrestling a 150-200 lber while you tie them up.

I don't weigh him so I don't know, but I'm sure it wasn't over two hundred, right?

Weighed both on a scale that went to 420 and checked it with barbell weights. The scale is right. Pigs that big are killed often enough to where I hear about it a few times a year. There was a boar killed that bottomed out the same scale two years ago. I've posted a picture of mine on here before. Can't find it now.

Ive got a pic if a boar that my uncle killed near oxford ms. They took it to a meat processor. Scale went to 350 and bottomed out well below 350. Meat processor estimated 400-450. My uncle had no reason to lie to me. I will post some pics when i get a chance.

for reference, this is a 200lb hog given to my uncle last year by the local game wardens that they killed and weighed themselves.

And then post a picture, of a boar, that still isn't 300lbs.

Sorry I don't have pictures from the 90's readily available. That's why I posted a picture for size reference

How much do you think the above pig weighs? The sow my dad killed was quite a bit bigger.

It certainly appears that it weighed more than this one. This boar was slightly below 250.

I have killed a shite ton of hogs and the 250 lb plus pig is rare.

I have been in several multi county hog contests where hundreds of hogs were trapped in fertile areas with lots of deer feeders, crops, and acorns too eat. And yet less than 1% of the hogs broke the 275 lb mark and less than 0.5% broke 300 lb mark.

LINK

20 county hunt with 750 pigs taken and only 2 over 300 lb. (both boars)

largest hog in the highest targeted county in the contest was 245 lb. Nearly 1/4 of the hogs came from this county. LINK

This years results no pigs over 300 with 507 killed total. LINK

People over estimate the hell out of hog sizes especially on the hoof.

For the record I have killed 1 over 300 (305 actually) and only a handful over 250 (all boars). This is despite killing on average 50 pigs per year for the last 7 years.

Ive killed a bunch of hogs and have only killed one that was over 300#. This one maxed out a 300# scale as soon as his shoulder left the ground. The head was still sideways and touching when we maxed the scale.

what part of Tx is this? based off of approx 20 years of hunting in the hill country, i've noticed that they don't get as big there as i've seen here in La.

Maybe in different areas hogs are larger than the area you hunt in. Just like with deer.

I know in some areas of the state a 150lb deer is large and in other areas 250-300 is large. In canada it's a lot more common for deer to be over 300lbs.

NE TEXAS including counties that share a border with LA.

Big hogs happen.

but not very often.

I weigh 90% of the hogs we kill. Anyone want to guess the weights of these two:

This one is lying on a full size Dodge tailgate.

This one the wife killed was also weighed.

absolutely.

that does nto discredit my statement.

I can not even begin to tell you how many times I have heard stories about "at least 400 lb" hogs crossing roads or fields from experienced hunters.

here is a link to another BIG hog contest where over the course of 3 years only 3 pigs eclipsed 300 lbs LINK

Here is a hog hunter tourney from Ragley LA where the biggest was 270

LINK

I don't know, but it sure seems funny to me that when there is money on the line professional hog hunters and trappers can rarely seem to find hogs crossing 300 lbs when so many here are certain that they are roaming the woods in huge numbers.

Yea you are probably right. I've probably killed 100+ hogs and only 2 of mine have been over 300 pounds. Most of them under 200 pounds. It takes an older boar to get that big and just like with what happens with deer, more people kill the younger hogs.

I've seen quite a few hogs that I've never gotten a shot on that seemed to be over 300 but who knows. It's hard to tell the size until they are dead and I'm looking at them up close.

i think most of the time there is an empty beer can or two associated with this guesstimate.
i've been shooting at these things for 23 years now and have killed 1 and weighed a buddies kill that went over 300#. i did loose one that was WAY BIGGER than my 300# kill (but that's another story).

I'm on my phone, but I'd guess 150 at the most for the top one.
I have no idea of the size of the two ladies, but I'd say 120ish for the bottom picture.

One difference that I've noticed is the build of the pigs. In Arkansas some areas have pigs that look like Russians with huge front ends and small butts (which is what those that you posted seem to look like). 20 miles away the pigs will look more like domestics.

I don't think that there are 300lb pigs running all over the woods. In the 30 years I've hunted at my lease we've killed 100s of pigs and only two have been verified by scales as being over 300lbs. My only problem was that I was all but called a liar for saying that my dad killed a 300lb sow and being told I didn't know what I was talking about when I said the pig that I posted a picture of weighed more than 200lbs.

Nobody that's actually on pigs believes there's a lot of 300 pounders. But they aren't nearly as rare as that article indicates. Maybe in Texas, but places east of there where they have better food...

Just sayin.
