He's 5 and I'm pretty scared that, well I know, that the weather will be terrible. Storms are and will be rolling through. He has a waterproof hunting coat, pants, and boots and the blind has a roof but I'm still afraid we won't have a good hunt.

Oh well. We'll have fun anyway.

Good thing your bringing him this early. If the weather sucks you always have a few more weeks.

Jk jk

Wish my family would have duck hunted growing up.

Some of the best memories I have are duck hunting with my pops when the weather is very shitty. As long as he is outfitted properly(from the looks of it he is), he should have a great time. I was a bit older than five when I started duck hunting. Just try to get a few to touch down in the decoys and let him blast one on the water, should be a great memory for him.

As long as you let him think he killed some ducks, he'll want to keep going. He won't care what the weather is like as long as he gets to hold that bird.

He won't be shooting yet. I probably won't let him take that on until he is 9 or 10. He still has a lot to learn about gun safety but it's something that we are working on.

I just want him to go and experience it right now.
I never duck hunted growing up and actually introduce my dad to it in highschool. I had friends that introduced me.

My son is 4 and I've taken him a couple times this year. One was a gadwall massacre standing on the banks of the slough behind the house. It was 20 minute fast paced hulling (me w/ a shotgun, him w/ a red rider) and then it was over. He thought it was awesome. The other hunt was in the blind at the camp and it was fairly slow. He got bored after about 2 hours, so I took him in. Once they start getting bored I think it's best to take em in. You don't want to burn them out. Good luck

I started when I was 6. I had a 20 gauge pump that would kick the crap out of me. They would let me stand on a 5 gallon bucket so I could see out of the blind. Almost Every time I would shoot it would nock me off the bucket. I would pump it as I was getting back up on top of the bucket and shoot again. Probably not the safest hunting in the world, but it worked and I loved every minute of it. First duck I ever killed was a banded mallard I still have the mount it is 28 years old. I have been hooked on duck hunting ever since.

Well, we had a pretty successful hunt. My son loved it. He told me as much several times. Lost a spoonie shot two other, a green head, a gw teal and a snow goose.

A good day

That's an awesome picture that I'm sure will be in your office, truck, wallet, mantle, or wherever for a long time.

Little late in my opinion. My dad gave me a .410 at 6 and I shot my 1st duck with my 20 gauge at 7. Start letting him shoot a bunch outside of duck season. 10 is a little late. At 13-14 he should be shooting a 12 gauge.
