This is the problem. Without even realizing what he said, he's been conditioned to think everything is the governments responsibility.

Them is actually mother nature.

It's called Mardi Gras pass because sometime around Mardi Gras 2011 the river busted through, destroyed a small road, and now dumps year round on that east side.

COE and DNR have not allowed costal permits to rebuild the road because there was already a plan in place to put a diversion in that general area. Mother nature saved taxpayers dollars and did it herself when the river hit a near record high in spring 2011.

I get where you guys are coming from, and I'm a "small government" guy, but I do see some value in the government protecting the public from possible hazards caused by potentially dangerous public accommodations. No different than regs on restaurants or other private places the public depends on. You don't know what you're getting into when backing down. I've had to have an axle re-welded because of a shitty private ramp.

There's a difference between them letting you know it's shitty vs the government making them fix it.

And I assume that word of mouth will spread quickly if a place has a bad launch. So either launch somewhere else and cut into their income until they fix it or deal with it.

We don't need any more government oversight. There are plenty of launches I don't use because I don't like the ramp, the location, parking, etc... I just choose to launch and fish elsewhere.

Absolutely not. I dont even care what the rest of this sentence says...

ETA - I would be fine with a law that requires Ramp owners to notify users that it may be of low quality/dangerous to boats.

...and I bet you consider yourself a "small government conservative." Stop going to these places and they'll either improve or close.

Was that a free or paid private launch? And were there signs or did you sign something saying you used their ramp at your own risk? That should be taken up with the owner of the launch by you or your attorney.

I quit reading after this.

Buy or build your own launch if you have an issue with it.

So the state can regulate the water, the fishing, the boats, the equipment, but can't regulate a boat launch? Hmmm

Boat launch is private property.

So are all businesses but if you operate one you have rules you have to follow. You can't have people smashing into shite in your business. If you openly neglect your boat ramp and continue to leave it open for business you're opening yourself up for a liability suit.

I don't think the government should be regulating boat ramps, the free market should take care of itself. Unfortunately for ramp owners there is level of responsibility. I'm surprised more ramps don't get sued.

I've jacked up a trailer on a horrible shell launch. I wouldn't be opposed to something like this.
