Well that sucks! Where specifically in South Pass has the sandbar grown out into the pass. Also, just fyi to the OB, Tiger Pass has a sand bar thats growing out in it. Towards the mouth at the last bank of rojo cane. It wasn't there last year as it was 5ft mostly. Now it's less than 2 ft in a larger portion inside marked channel. The channel markers are misleading.

No one is dredging south pass or tiger pass, so the channel is not being maintained between the markers. There is talk about removing the beacons in Tiger Pass.

The sand bar you speak of has a large marker on it but not visible in darkness

I've been in boats that have hit logs on plane, and the motor just kicks up. Hasn't ever ripped off

Been in one on Big Lake south of Lake Charles and tried to go across Texaco cut, but it had silted in....motor didn't even flip up...I just ate the fiberglass center console I was riding in....nice busted lip..then we had to jump out and push the boat backwards. That wasn't fun.

No, I meant the story about the motor flying off and killing that person.

Most of the sand bars in south pass are on the right side (west side) running out. Especially once you get past Frank's crossing.

Now pass a loutre is a different story. The sand bars switch from side to side all the way to the end. Pass a loutre has really been filling in a lot in the past 20 years or so.

FOR SALE: 28' Grady White Marlin, needs minor transom repair and engines may need a tune-up.

6-7 years ago, I saw a 40+' sportsfisher try to run across the east side rock jetties out of southpass. Screwed that days offshore fishing for me. Had to run the 5 guys back up river, hang around for the coast guard to do a report. And yes, it took about 5 minutes for that sucker to fill up with water.

Great. I'll be fishing out there for faux pas and I've never been in that area before.

That might be me in that picture in 3 weeks

You will be fine just run east of center the whole way and any cuts off South pass Idle into due to possible sand bars and rocks.

In my opinion South pass is one of the easiest passes to run down there. Yes it's silting in, but run as I said above and it should never get shallower than 6 feet if that much.

I knocked a 150 Merc off of a Ranger yrs ago, the steering cables saved the motor from sinking in 30 feet of water.

My dad wanted to beat the white off my arse too.

My dad and I hit one of the Belle Pass channel markers that got taken out by a hurricane years ago. It was a good mile up Bayou Lafourche. Luckily we were just getting onto the plane when we hit it. The motor stayed up and the transom wasn't badly damaged, but the skeg and prop got trashed.
