Georgia lease I hunt on in Harris County,Ga. had opening gun season this past Sat.
Son-in-law of property owner had three friends hunting with him.
One decided to sit on the ground against a tree on ridge just off of edge of swamp. Heard what he thought was squirrel messing around just behind him. Slowly turned to check and see's a cougar/panther less than twenty yards broadside to him slowly walking as it keep it's eyes on him. Said it was scariest thing he had ever seen and this guy spent two tours in the 'Stan and three in Iraq.Property owner asked if he was sure it wasn't a big bobcat and he told him he's seen over ten bobcats in his hunting life and without a doubt this was a full-bore cougar/panther (no...not black )
Said hair went up on his neck thinking he may have been the prey instead of the predator on that ridge.

LA Sportsman released an article today about one in Beauregard parish. I've seen one squirrel hunting up there. Put some buckshot in my gun and headed to the truck. Straight line. Fast as frick.

This makes me less likely to believe it.

I could understand that if one of the other three regulars on the property had ssid he saw one two years ago, roughly 400 yds from this sighting.

There's at least two that have been reported here in the last few months (or maybe it's the same one spotted in different parts of the county).
Sooooo....how do I get in on this lease?

If I see a cougar, there's a 105% chance I would never return to property.

LOL
Was reading an article earlier today about a guy who shot one during deer season one county over.
Unless it's an absolute matter of life and death shooting one will cost you @ $5,000, not including lawyers fees.

I want to know what part of the county (I live in Harris County, GA) the lease is in; I know of one spotting back in May near the Ellerslie VFD. Seems the cat was scouting someone's pigs.
Here's the FB post the woman made about it:
"My 15 year old said she saw a large golden colored cat about the size of our lab which is a hundred pounds in our backyard near our pigs. We live near Ellerslie fire station. Since then I have lost 3 ducks and found tracks. I figured it was a bobcat except for a few small details she described. The ledger ran a article on Florida Panthers with a picture. She said this was the cat she saw. The prints and weight match."
I know one was killed in a neighboring county (Troup) back in 2008.

Ha. Same here. I live in Ellerslie in Harris County. I have 280 acres that me and one other guy are hunting. Plus my brother has some leases over around Lake Harding on the Alabama side. Would love to get in on a lease in Harris County though. I have a friend that has 900 acres along Mulberry Creek on the River Side of River Road all the way down to Goat Rock.

Plenty of bottoms around here. I live in a subdivision off 315 and had 8 deer in my yard the other night. Granted my yard is 3.5 acres, 1.5 is wetlands due to it being a watershed for Bull Creek. Plenty of room for one to be roaming around in this area. I have pulled into my driveway and had 2 coyotes run into the trees in the middle of the day. Also have seen a red fox in the yard.
