It's a good round don't get me wrong, but there are plenty of better rounds out there. It's like saying go buy a bass tracker loaded when you can get the Z9. Sure the bass tracker is a fine boat, but it's not a Z9.

The 243 is a good gun. It just requires that you take good shots and don't miss. My 7mm is a lot more forgiving because I know I'm going to cause an extreme amount of damage wherever I hit. The 243 needs a proper lung/heart shot.

You could also look into an AR-15 platform chambered in .300 black out. That way she can use it for deer and you get a new toy as well

With 125 grain ammo it should do fine out to 200yds max. As others have said the 7mm-08 makes a good deer rifle with manageable recoil. You definitely don't want anything that kicks like a mule.

I gut shot many a deer with my .243 as a youngster and it still did the trick
