And took the new .22 for a spin. I'd almost forgotten how much fun hunting squirrels (with a gun) can be. I actually shot my limit of eight, but one that I thought was dead wasn't quite, and it managed to crawl off and I never found it.

Very nice. Squirrel hunting is still one of my favorites, even though I rarely get to it anymore.

It's public land, but I don't want to advertise my "secret" spot on the internet. I'd be happy to tell you where it is privately. But, you know where I live, so that pretty much narrows down the choices.

Nope, Don't necessarily want to know where your secret spot is...just wanted to ask a follow up question: How bad is other hunters during squirrel season after deer season is over?

It doesn't seem too bad. I've seen some other vehicles, and heard some shots, but it seems like there's enough space for everyone to get their own areas.

Yeah RSA would be nice but you can't hunt with a .22 out here for squirrels. Only shotgun/muzzleloader/archery allowed.

I'm probably about a year or 2 away from trying turkeys out here. I know there are some...I've seen enough of them...now harvesting one..that's a different story.

I've really only gotten into turkey hunting in the last 5 years. I still haven't harvested one, but there's nothing like hearing gobbles ring through the big timber on a cool spring morning. The first year that I got into it, my uncle was calling for me and he called in 2 jakes within 15 yards. Probably the coolest thing I've experienced outdoors.

Be careful turkey hunting on public land. It is the most dangerous type of public land hunting.

I just started working on base myself about 3 months ago. I'm thinking about taking advantage of the archery hunting next fall.

As far as turkeys, I saw a flock of 20 outside my window the first week I was out here. And last spring, I saw the same lone hen almost every day on the side of 565, feeding on the shoulder outside the arsenal fence.
