Don't need a ton on the bottom. Light weight.
Up top, medium weight, maybe fleece (maybe you can sweat your arse off if you have a good jacket) OR LS shirt.
Beanie under helmet, maybe balaclava and or neck gator.
Usually I burn my arse up off the lift. Coldest on the lift so neck gator balaclava does work.

This. I like for my primary to be something that doesn't restrict movement, secondary is usually ski bib on bottom and some sort of light jacket on top. If the sun is out, you will be sweating in no time, so wear stuff that you can shed if necessary.

Last time I went I did nike pro armor, a t shirt, and my jacket. I had the pro armor leggings as well. You need something breathable.

a better and cheaper alternative to the under armour and nike bottoms will be something made by asics or saucony. i also have the under armour 4.0 tops and bottoms. these are not as thick but provide great insulation and movement being that they are running pants. i wear these under my goretex bottoms. they run about $40/pr and i haven't found anything better. just got back from skiing where temps ranged from 33 to 2 deg. they worked great in all conditions

last time i went, i just wore snowboard pants. you get hot fast when skiing/snowboarding
This.
When I lived up north and snowboarded frequently I had two pairs of pants, one insulated one just the shell. I think I wore the insulated ones actually snowboarding once, but I sweated so much in them it actually made me cold.
Ended up just going with the shell, or at the most a pair of jeans underneath.

Just depends. In the Rockies, sunny day no matter what the temp you are gonna heat up. If it's cloudy, you'll probably need your layers. Farther north you go, the less this is true.

I never liked insulated ones, just a shell. It was normally cold in Montana skiing so I had double layer on underneath most of the time. In springtime I would wear shorts underneath.
