CZ sharptail 16g that I quail/dove and small game hunt with.

Will be buying another 16g if I can find one on a smaller frame. The CZ is on a 12g frame.

If I can't I am getting a 20g.

Nothing fancy but it’s a squirrel killer. A 20 gauge Stevens 311 with 28” tubes chambered full/modified. It was purchased from Howard Brothers in 1982.

Does it seem to you 28s are a lot more popular than they used to? I was in Academy the other day and there were a lot more 28 shells than 20. I know three people that have bought a 28 in the last year.

Why not just buy a nice older used 20 gauge sxs and make your life easier? Smaller frame (generally), more readily available, and traditionally more readily available ammo.

The used double barrel market is undervalued. I’m an O/U guy but you can find quality used O/U’s all day long that I would say are better quality than most of the new production mid price range guns, and the price difference isn’t astronomical.

I probably will because the jump up in cost after CZ is considerable.

I’m all ears for some high-value used double bbl recommendations. Which models, where to find, what’s a good price, etc?

I’m here, pizza place has me pretty busy. For the price I am a big fan of older American field grade guns. Fox, Parker, LC Smith. This issue with the older guns is that not many gun shops in the south have much of a selection, which leads you to places to purchase like Gunbroker. Barrels are issue #1, bad barrels on a sxs make the gun almost worthless. Look at pitting, a little isn’t an issue but a lot is big trouble. Look at pictures of the screws on the action. You don’t want messed up screws, it typically means someone was monkeying around with the gun that didn’t know what they were doing, cracks in the stock behind the action can be another issue.

The advantage of the older guns is that craftsmanship, even on field grade guns, is much higher quality than entry level guns today.

Guns from Italy and Spain can also be good quality guns for the money. All of those guns made in the 80’s and 90’s are mainly hand made guns

Mind giving a little more detail in manufactures or models?

TIA

Best of luck in your search. I picked up a mint Browning Auto 5 Mag 20 yesterday. Gun searches are great!

I am a big fan of the Double Gun Shop for sale page. There aren't a lot of listings but the listing that are made are typically are good listings at good prices.

You probably won't see many 16-gauge shotguns from Spain. Aya and Ugartechea boxlock sxs shotguns are good quality guns for the money.
