I am ready to buy some steel shot for duck season and need some advice. I have narrowed it down to the following choices:

1. Heavi Metal - $179.99 per case

2. Black Cloud - $149.99 per case

3. Heavi Steel - $15.99 per box

All are equivalent shot size, shot weight, etc.

I am looking to buy a case...which would you choose and why?

Never used black cloud but have heard it makes the gun dirtier than most.

Have shot Black Cloud exclusively for several years. Yes, I have to clean my gun more often and yes from time to time I have unburned powder in my eyes. But, that said, it is deadly at close and long range. I use a Black Cloud compatible choke tube.

Does the BC really need to have a compatible choke? Ever shot it without one?

HeviMetal 3" #3's use to be my go to load. Now I shoot either Drylok, Blue Box Fedral's or Rio's. I've became a huge fan of the Rio's the last couple seasons

Where are you finding heavy metal for $179 a case? That is awfully cheap for those. It's been a few years since I've got any but I remember paying close to $3 a shell.

I've been shooting black cloud for 7 years now. They are a great shell. Hardly any crippleds.

I use to shoot fiocci but I can't find them anymore. I know I can order them but I don't for some reason

Shot the hevi-steel 3.5" out of my Franchi last season. Didn't like the way they cycled

Hevi metal - look at rogers. Best place I've ever found on ammo especially when you can get the case for 209 -$50 rebate and free shipping.

Also, go find a couple of shells of each before you buy and pattern your gun with a good choke. So many people buy shells before they actually look at what the pattern does in their own gun.

I've had a handful of problems with HeavySteel out of my Benelli. I won't be shooting it any more. Heavy Metal is good but I can't justify spending that much money on shells. I'll probably go back to the Kent Faststeel this season.

There is a reason it is called black cloud. Because it makes your gun black. They are ok but I can kill them with cheaper stuff just as good

Hevi metal..... dead w/ feet kicking. Looks like welding slag but results don’t lie.
I use BBs for geese and 2 or 3s for ducks

If not hevimetal than my next choice is kent fast steel. But you didn’t list those. You may want to pattern your gun/choke too, not all loads are equal in all set ups. My beretta(s) like a mod or lite full while when I shot rems it was lite mod or mod. Back in the day in LA we used estate fast steel as well. Main key is fast speed, 1500+ FPS
