Any thought or advice or seasonal or license info is appreciated.
Thinking to setup a 16/20 ct booth at farmers market.

Why is no one doing it?

Have never done anything like this but thoughts are appreciated.

Used to sell bbq sauce at the Br farmers market. It was a pain in the arse and I didn’t have to worry about hauling a bunch of ice chests. And then you have to find a way to keep them cool for your customers as they walk around.

Cutrer’s sold his stuff frozen so it definitely would still be cold by the time the customer is ready to leave. Not sure how that would work with fresh shrimp.

I’m not knocking it but the refrigeration would be enough for me to not attempt.

Just call the courthouse or parish pres office to see if a permit is required locally. If no get to slinging them shrimps Baw.

I’d buy a commercial fishing license to be safe if you don’t have one

You just need to double bag with a scoop of ice. Shrimp in one bag, tie it. Then ice in another bag, put shrimp in it, tie it.

You would need a commercial fishing license but other than that I don’t think anything else is necessary

You don’t need a commercial fishing license to sell shrimp. You need a commercial fishing license to catch them.

Some farmers market only let you sell what you produce. No reselling. And you have to be a member.

You need a seafood retail license to sell product that you buy. You can sell your own catch to the public with a Louisiana Fresh Products License.

Different license ‘s permit you to buy and sell under different circumstances.

Go to the LDWF website. It’s not hard to follow. Or call them.

There' a guy in CENLA that sells shrimp on the side of the road. He announces where he will be on Facebook. I think he does very well.

I haven’t been in a few years, but used to be able to get some shrimp at the BR Farmer’s Market. They had been flash frozen (maybe on the boat, not sure). Bought them many times.

You are better off getting a supply and setting up a tent or trailer on a consistent basis. I know several guys that sell out every weekend... getting twice what you can buy shrimp for from one of the larger places like B&J. Usually they have crabs, fish filets, crab legs, frozen shrimp, etc. to fill out the selection.

Also, don't sell them by the pound, you need a certified scale if you do. Instead, sell them by the quart (equals out to about 1 pound of shrimp) or a gallon, or 5 gallons.
