Looks like I need to throw a spook or rogue more often, based on the responses, so thanks for the input.
Heddon Baby Torpedo (or even Magnum Torpedo) will always be my favorite, though. I've also caught bass on the Tiny Torpedo.
Black Shore Minnow for slightly choppy and/or darker/overcast conditions. Chrome/black back or variants (black shiner/black shiner glitter/g-finish shad) for brighter conditions.
How long to stop (let it rest). How long to go (and how fast/how far). Part of the equation...
As posted, early morning (first several hours after sunrise) and late evening (last several hours before sunset) is best time to try prop baits. Evenings, especially before you're about to "call it a day" (from shore or just before you're about to trailer or tie up your boat) can be very rewarding. Coves, even ones only several hundred feet off the main body of water (especially when water is fairly calm) on places like Toledo Bend bring back memories.
A prop bait (like a Torpedo} is probably not a great tourney bait or a bait to tie on when you're trying to catch your limit or cull your limit with larger bass.
It's a relaxing/end of the day/take your time bait. But, boy, when a bass blasts it 20-30 feet in front of you when you were not expecting it and you are practically sprayed with the surface smash, what a visual, visceral thrill.
Love it. Always loved it. Good luck on the hook set. Good fishing.

Don't know if I have a favorite but I have several that I like, depending on the area that I fish. On my favorite pond, I like the Rebel Pop-R or a Rapala jointed minnow lure. Of course the buzz bait works well depending on place.

I have one and it's really good in a clear water reservoir type lake but I fish shallow dirty water most of the time and the sound might make a difference but I usually fish my Xcaliber Zell-Pop cause I'm scared I'm going to lose my $16 bait.
I have caught a catfish on it though.

Ahhhh, c'mon man. We went 5 pages without someone spilling the beans. I know it's no secret in the competitive bass fishing world, but did you really have to tell the masses?
THIS IS WHY WE CANT HAVE NICE THINGS!
