Keep seeing this boat advertised at the bottom of the OB. I actually think it looks cool, but can't think of a single practical use for it . Any ideas?

For 114 K you get this.

quote:

a 23 inch prop pushing the boat to around 11 knots at WOT.

Thanks, but no thanks.

They're extremely seaworthy and have a crazy long range. This one has 2k nm range.

all the pictures I see on the website are computer generated with shitty photoshop jobs.

seems like a high estimate with a 300 gal tank.

Do you know anything about trawlers?

it has a 110 Yanmar diesel engine. Cruising speed is 6.8 knots. It's extremely efficient. All trawlers are.

So you've got a 34' boat with a 2000 NM range...what do you do with it? It doesn't look very accomodating for long trips. Doesn't appear to be a great fishing layout. Not quite luxurious enough for a "yacht"...maybe just an island hopper/water taxi type boat?

Think of it as a water RV.

This boat uses the same engine and weighs 7,000 less than the seapiper.

says it burns about 1 GPH at 6 knots. which would be 6 mpg or 1,800 miles with a 300 gallon tank. factor in the increase in weight and its not very likely to get 2,000 nautical miles out of a 300 gallon tank unless you are cruising at 4 knots or something which would take 21 days to travel 2,000 miles which you would then need to factor in additonal weight for supplies, water, etc.

Anyone else think that looks suspiciously similar to bateau designs?

I'm pretty sure 6 knots is 7mph. So that's 285 gallons to make 2000 miles.

Don't know how they came up with it. Could be a much more efficient hull that the Nordic.
But weight doesn't have as much to do with it as hull design.

The Nordic is a foot wider and drafts more. That could have something to do with it.

That's sweet. I'd do whale watching charters out of that thing.

That's such a hokey picture. A boat going 6-7 kts could never throw a wake like that. It's a misrepresentation of the vessel.

Reading the specs, the hull is a meager 0.5 inch thick fiberglass! I'd never trust my life to a cheap hull like that on the open water. Maybe in a swimming pool, OK, but not the ocean! A real boat has a hull measured 1 1/2 to 3 inches thick minimum, not half an inch total!

I predict there will never be a boat like this sold for $114,000. It's a (sea) pipe dream!

3 inch thick fiberglass? Seriously?

You must be confusing the glass with the coring material.
