I need a couple more sac-a-lait rod and reels for my boat. My stuff is old. Not looking for high end just want some nicer gear for guests and myself.

I bought a crappie maxx combo spinning from bass pro last month and wore sac a lait out on my last trip. It was fun and reliable and $50.

It looks like the rods I use are no longer being sold, but this is the same reel and the same length/action rod I use.

I'm no pro, by any means, but I've enjoyed the light action and the short 5'6" rod. Kids have enjoyed learning to use a spinning reel on these too, and have caught a lot more fish than they did when they were using their $20 Zebco combos and couldn't feel the fish.

Something like below with 4lb test makes crappie fishing more fun, IMO.

This is pretty much all I do.
Reels are easy. Just pick your price point, and choose the Daiwa 1000 of your choice.

Rods are more difficult, and I have too many to name. My recent favorites have come from the Daiwa Procyon line. The Duckett Crappie slayers are nice for the price as well.

6 foot zebco 33 combo. Never had an issue, the extra 6 inches of rod allows you to handle the bigger ones better..............

Those 12 foot set ups always intrigued me but I never pulled the trigger on one.

I prefer a 6 ft one piece rod with a small spinning reel. I found a few Wally marshall ones on clearance recently at Academy and they have been great for me. But I don’t think they carry them anymore, at least the ones I bought.

I have this small micro lite spinning reel from Cabelas/Bass Pro that has been really solid.

I spool mine with 6lb Trilene XL smooth casting.

I have a little Falcon BooCoo UL with a Pfleuger President XT 10 on it. Great little rod and reel.

Have you gone down the BFS rabbit hole for sacaulait gear? That pixy you have on a light rod like the Dobyns Sierra Ultra finesse 650C should be awesome.

Since I've moved back to BR I haven't had a chance to chase sacaulait with my bfs gear yet.

How do you target them?

Your rod and Reel needs will vary considerably depending on how you're fishing for them.

Soaking a cork and shiner? Casting a road runner? Vertical jigging in deeper water on tops? Perch jerkin shallow cypress trees? Shootin' docks?

I grabbed a Pfleuger President for $45 from Walmart and a Basspro Elite Panfish rod light after doing a good bit of research. Both were the best I could find in the sub $125/combo range. It's perfect for catching Catfish on corks and also shooting docks with sacalait jigs

Last year I was in the same boat.

A year later and now I shop Japanese fishing sites for BFS, own multiple Gekkabijin SV TW reels, and several Dobyns ultra finesse rods.

I run the original B&M 10’ with the zebco golds. Everyone is different, though. Believe I have 4 of em.

No, not for that. I much prefer spinning tackle for this. My dabbling with BFS was purely for very light crankbaits.

I sold all my spinning tackle once I found BFS gear that can launch a 1/16 oz fin spin a good bit further than any spinning setup I had.

Mostly vertical jigging over piles. I shoot docks about 25% of the time.

I am just now learning about the BFS world. Watched some Tactical Bassin videos on the gear, but haven't made any purchases yet.

Walmart had a perfect crappie rod awhile back. It was bright orange. Came with a spinning reel and line. Was 10 bucks total. Thing is awesome for crappie and bream fishing.
