I found BFS gear that can launch a 1/16 oz fin spin a good bit further than any spinning setup I had.
I can cast farther with my spinning stuff than can actually be useful. 2000 series with 6 or 8lb Nanofil, and I have to throttle back. Besides, I simply enjoy the catch on spinning more. From May through the end of November, I am fishing piles and laydowns, so I am using an 8ish foot rod. I would hate using baitcasting for how I am fishing that.

You fairy wanders are all the same. First it was baitcasters can’t compete in distance. Honeycomb spools get invented and now it’s you don’t need the distance anyways.

I kid.

But in all honestly, I’m fishing the same structure and types of environments as you. The BFS baitcasters setups can handle all of that. I cast, flip, pitch, vertical jig, etc. naturally with them. And Dobyns goes up to 7’8” on their ultra finesse series.

I honestly believe they cannot. if you're casting farther with a baitcaster, something is wrong.

I don't doubt - I know I would not enjoy it. I want the rod in my right hand, and I hate lefty baitcasters. I simply prefer the spinning experience much more.

Oh, the one thing baitcasters suck at in comparison is the dead drop.

When spool weight plus line weight gets below a certain ratio compared to lure weight, there is less unwinding friction on a baitcast setup compared to stationary spools.

This is especially true as spinning reel spools get smaller and smaller. The amount of unwinding friction increases nonlinearly as the spool diameter gets smaller.

I had a couple pflueger size 20 spinners and the Gekkabijin could smoke em.

Yeah, I never thought I would like anything better than my 1000s, but will probably move to 2000s from now on.

I don't believe this.

One of things I miss most about Louisiana is hitting the sac au lait in the swamp. I had a couple of ultra lite five foot ugly sticks with eight lbs test and a collapsible 10 foot jig pole just in case.

You’ve probably only thrown baitcasters with spool weights in the 15-20 gram range.

Whole different world throwing a 5 gram spool with SiC bearings.

I got a wiffle spool on a tatula svtw 103 that weighs 6gr allegedly (as a side note, I never know if the listed spool weights include the shaft or not). I paired it with the dobyns suf 691c and that setup can cast 1/16oz jigheads with a plastic with ease. And it absolutely launches anything bigger than that.

The only time I prefer a spinning rig is when Im vertical jigging but I think its far superior for that purpose.

I havent even tried the BFS stuff yet but I see it all over youtube.
