The fact that they make a gun that is over $1k that uses a plastic mainspring housing is ridiculous.

I 100% agree. And that plastic mainspring housing is a sign that they have started to cut a lot of unnecessary corners for a gun that is starting to not be competitive in the 1911 market.

Having said that, I will say Kimber puts some of the best looking finishes on their guns. I haven't seen a company as consistent as them making excellent finishes.

Here is a review I did a while back of the commander model (4.25" barrel instead of 5"). I agree with others that it is an outstanding value for the money.

I haven't looked at it really closely but I do believe that the mainspring housing on my Colt Delta Elite is plastic.

Need to get it out a look at it closer.

Even Colt is going cheap where they can if it is indeed plastic. I'll look in the morning.

It is. No excuse for that either. Colt is still better than Kimber as far as I am concerned when it comes to QC and overall quality of parts.

What holster is that baw?

I've been looking at a Galco Concealable or Combat Master for mine. I'm considering maybe carrying it a bit in the winter (OWB under jacket) after a good bit more practice..... Can't see it replacing my Shield from a rounds down range or every day conceability stand post though.

dartman, I don't own a Ruger SR1911, but I prob will someday. Based on what I've read, evaluating it's features and from my experiences of ownaing a lot of Ruger firearms, I recommend it. If you get one, I suggest taking a real hard look at the Lightweight Commander model. For some folks, myself included, the Commander balances and points better; the alloy framed model would certainly be more conducive to cc.

Keep us updated.

I own one and have had no problems with it. My favorite semi-auto of the ones I have.

Your review is what pushed me to get the ruger. I was looking at the s&w like you had in the vid as well and decided after watching to get the ruger and a AK with the $ I saved. Cuz 2 is better than 1

That's strange since their sights are high quality and are made by Novak. Did you notify them and did they fix it? I don't see why they wouldn't.

Well I'm happy to help feed your firearm addiction. 2 is definitely better than 1!

Although I bought the full size, your video sealed the deal for me too. Probably put 1,000 rounds through it since January and she hadn't checked up. I've tried flying through a mag just to try and make her hiccup. Just can't do it. So far she's flawless.

I have one also, and love it. The only issue has been that the front site broke off shortly after I bought it. I think that was an issue on the SR 1911 when they first came out. Other than that, love the pistol.

Maybe. I just want a 1911 that is forged. Sig's 1911 is all forged except for two small parts. Colt is mostly forged. I would pay a little more for the forged and I don't like Ruger.

Good to hear! It really is an absolutely excellent value.

Ruger's casting allows the use of steel alloys that a usually stronger than conventionally forged ones. Similar arguments are made around M1As by SAI, zero merit in them too. My SAI 1911 is forged frame and slide but I'm under no illusion that it's stronger than a Ruger.
