It's always more for the experience than it is for actually winning the tournament. It's a fun time, and a great way to get away for a weekend

Last year I went for the first time ever. Maybe the worst fishing experience I've ever had in my life. Crowded as hell, hardly any bulls caught in the pack, lost my anchor and line in the channel, got rained on. Ended up giving up on reds about 2 pm and went to Elmers and just caught specks and white trout off the beach. Had way more fun doing that.

Yeah, still trying to forget that.

Thanks for reminding me.

Are they still projecting RTB to be far under the amount of participants as last year?

didn't they raise the entry fee this year? That probably explains the drop in entry's.

ETA: $75, don't remember if entry fee was $75 last year or not

Well in all fairness if there is a drop, I think it is combination of things including most notably, health issues with the Wray's and because of that less advertising and push for the event.

Some guy on Facebook was bitching about the price change, apparently previously it was $65, now it's $75 or $85 if you wait to late-register.

I've talked to several people who were first timers last year who are not returning this year stating lack of fish and overcrowding. I still want to give it a shot but am not expecting much though $3000 and a new ATAK would be cool. Odds are I'll just be walking away with a T shirt, a sunburn and a good buzz.

I've fished it the last four years and am on the fence as to whether I will be down there again in a couple weeks.

4 years, some of the nastiest weather/tides, a multitude of catfish and sharks... And zero bulls caught.

I've had some slow fishing days over the years, but being anchored in the pass soaking bait is about as slow as it gets...

Payoff is great if you reel in a good one, but it's all about being in the right place at the right time.

I'm not fishing it. You don't need 80 lb test. I fished the ifa kayak tournament last weekend and caught 4 bulls on artificial. My biggest was 40" and I landed it in 5 min on 50# powerpro with a shimano curado. The bulls are thick in certain passes. I'm sure it's the same for caminada even though I didn't fish it. From what I understand the turnout will be a half of what it was last year.

I have been watching the RTB FB page. Looks like they have more yaks than last year and quite a few fish have been weighed in. Current leader is 39# and 2nd is 35#. Have to be over 27.5# to make leaderboard.
