870
shotgun/boat paddle/push pole

used for those things and many other.....best part...you can use it as a paddle, then pick it right up out the water and kill a duck

870, I've had both. I hated the BPS, just didn't seem to fit well and somehow browning managed to make a gun that was heavy yet still kicked hard for its size.

I have both...I shot both..I like the BPS just a hair more because of the safety postion and the bottom eject..since I shot left handed this makes it a little easier.

Spend a little more money and buy a 870 wingmaster. You pay for what you get. Better up grade all around and its a life time gun. Those cheap express, the stock will break easy. I know of 2 people that had there stock break sofar. Other then that, they are a good buy for the money. One can buy a camo plastic stock for under $70 to replace the cheap wood stock.

Have had both for over 20 years. The BPS is simply a better gun. Smoother action, better safety position, and bottom eject. Having said that, the last gun I bought was a Nova, and I'd do it again.

870 wingmaster kicks the shite out of all of the above, but out the two you mentioned, 870 no doubt.

Thanks to all that replied. The opinions seem to be mixed but more seem to favor the 870 express. With a used bps being 100 more is it worth the extra money? Someone also mentioned 870 wingmaster, how much are they going for?

A new wingmaster will probably run you close to $700, but it is leaps and bounds above all other pump shotguns. I can't tell you how many from the 60's and 70's still find their way into the woods at my camp each year. Based off of what you're asking though, it's out of your price range.

I'm a die hard 870 man. The express is a great gun, it just has a cheaper finish and more aluminum/plastic parts than the wingmaster. I've never heard of reliability issues with the express though, they just look like shite after a few years. Mine has been to hell and back and has never had a hiccup.

Can't speak on the BPS. Never had a reason to get anything other then a 870. Either will probably serve you very well.

Really!? I think my dad said he paid under $150 for his on sale from a catalog or something in the mid 80's. Great gun, he gave it to my younger brother last year.
