I have never bought a gun online before. Do I have to talk to someone ahead of time to set up a dealer to send it to?
Any suggestions?

Find someone that has a Federal Firearms License (FFL). Have the gun sent to them. They may have to send a copy of their license to the dealer. When the gun arrives, you'll have to complete the background check. The FFL holder usually charges a small fee to handle all the paper work and to keep his license fees paid for.

How much is a reasonable amount?

Glock 43.
Thinner profile. Light weight. Reliable.

$25.00-$35.00. Most on-line dealers have the names of FFL's in your area. Some will have them listed on their web-site.
Make a few calls.

quote:One of my son's friends bought a Shield (right before the rebate sales, unfortunately for him), and I took a couple turns with it (since I was supplying the ammo for all of us anyway )
I will say that the shield, even though it's small, it really does not feel like a small gun when shooting. I very much enjoy shooting mine as much as my other bigger guns (Glock 19, Sig p320, Sig P226, etc)
It is lighter but I really don't notice an additional recoil with it. I know it's there but it comes right back to the target perfectly. It does have an Apex trigger in it.
While it wasn't uncomfortable, it was definitely not as accurate or comfortable as the fullsized 9's I brought:
a CZ 75, a Beretta 92FS, and a Sig P226.
And for full disclosure, that was also my first time shooting the Sig after getting it in.
Nor was it anywhere near the fullsized 1911 in .45 acp, either, in terms of accuracy, and I'd say recoil was about even (or maybe less for the 1911).
If you WANT a small gun for potential carry, the Shield is all that you could ask for, and it's cheap enough to be a dedicated "leave 'er locked up in the truck" type of gun, for the price.
