Turning to the experts here for a recommendation on a concealed handgun. I currently have a S&W .40, but was looking for something more compact, mainly to keep in vehicle, not necessarily on my person.

TIA for your advice.

Smith and Wesson Shield. With rebate you can get them for like $200 bucks. Just add Trjicon HD sights and an Apex Trigger kit and you will have a badass carry gun.

The shield is probably the best deal on the market right now. Hard to say no to one of the best carry guns for $225.

If it's going to stay in your vehicle, why would you want something compact?

I keep my 1911 with me in the vehicle. The Shield is my carry gun though in warm weather.

Agreed,

If it's a truck gun no reason to downsize.

Shield is the best deal going for a concealed carry gun.

If you're not going to conceal it, there's no reason to not use what ya got though. Small guns are a bitch to shoot and hold less bullets.

I will say that the shield, even though it's small, it really does not feel like a small gun when shooting. I very much enjoy shooting mine as much as my other bigger guns (Glock 19, Sig p320, Sig P226, etc)

It is lighter but I really don't notice an additional recoil with it. I know it's there but it comes right back to the target perfectly. It does have an Apex trigger in it.

I forgot to add that I do prefer the capacity of the Glock or Sigs

I had one for a while and couldn't hit shite with it. Not sure if I had a bad one or just didn't spend enough time with it or maybe had unrealistic expectations for it, but it was soooooooo much worse than I'm used to. I had a hard time hitting a coke can at 15 yards with it.

I have the gun in your avatar.

The Shield is probably the best deal going.

With the trigger replacement (the stock trigger is not that good) i have had no issue of hitting a 5in circle at 15yds.

I usually practice with target at 15. This past weekend me and my kids were shooting at 25yds but using both rifle and pistol

I'll third that motion. For a truck gun, you don't need a compact carry gun so take use of the advantages afforded by a bigger gun: increased mag capacity, improved ease of shooting/handling and reduced recoil.
