I guess I want to buy something to wear in september for teal and later in the year for big ducks...and water level will never be known as I can hunt at different places.

so, sounds like I need some waders that I can layer up under...

Yep, you would be miserable in thick neo waders during teal season.

Thanks, Coco...do these things run true to shoe size, do I need to go up/down in size? Are there quality differences between Game Winner, Lacrosse and Cabela's? Why is Cabela's more expensive?

They tend to run true to size, but trying them on in-store is the only sure-fire way to know obviously. I don't have to go up or down a size.

As far as quality and price differences, they're all good brands. Game Winner has stepped up their quality in the past few years. I put them on par with Cabela's. LaCrosse is hit or miss with waders it seems, but more hit than miss in general. This particular pair has positive reviews online when I looked.

Cabela's is so expensive because they think very highly of themselves, there is no appreciable quality difference justifying the cost difference in my opinion.

I ended up buying the Academy brand for the following reasons:

1. I could try them on locally (Shreveport)
2. I know if I need to return them, Academy is easy to deal with. (All brands of waders have some pair that leak so knowing I could exchange them if I got a bad pair was important to me)
3. They were the best bargain and came highly recommended from someone with personal experience with them

Definitely try them on before buying for first time. They run closely to the size of your regular shoes

then you want the Cabelas Dry Plus, don't go neoprene. No need for obscene quantities of Thinsulate in the boots here in La. I wear mine in teal season (now) with shorts and then wear wader pants under them when its cold in regular season. No sweating

What about Cabela's justifies the price? They cost 1.5x what the Game Winner's do. Is there a way to quantify what you find that much more valuable about the Cabela's brand products?

I'm not just being an arse; I would honestly like to know. In general I find Cabela's makes high quality gear/clothing, but the Game Winner stuff has come a long way in the past 5 years and I no longer find the difference in brands to be significant.

Have you used their clothing/waders in the past year or so? Again, not too long ago I would have agreed 100% but my recent experience with their products has changed my mind.

I can look at them in the store and see the quality isn't there

i went through 2 pairs of cabelas waders last season, one neoprene ($220) and one uninsulated ($140). both lasted less than 15 hunts before having problems. the only value i see in the cabelas brand is that they will allow you to return their gear almost no questions asked. keep your receipt though; if you hunt hard they will not hold up in my experience.

Stitching and vulnerable seams around the boot hold up pretty well from what I've seen. I have nothing to say about GW because I've never used their stuff.

almost forgot...I got the supermags on sale after the season for 169...
