Just found a 3 ft rattler at my inlaws. After he lost his head, I wanted to stretch him out and let my boy see him... Problem was the damn thing stunk. I don't mean a mild odor, it was strong enough you didnt want to be anywhere near it. Anyone else had one stink that bad?

I shot a moccasin the other day and the smell was very distinct. I realized now why my river boat smelled that way after being tied up on the bank.
The bastards had been crawling on it all night..

I've only smelled cottonmouths/water moccasins. Every one of those I've smelled smelled like raw sewage.

Yes. Eastern diamondbacks are very common in the part of MS I grew up in and they stink like hell.

Snakes can musk you, so they probably musk themselves when you're killing them. I grew up thinking that's just how they crap - cause whenever you catch one it's suddenly all over you. But my pythons make actual turds when they poop. When you get musked, it's hard to get rid of that smell. When it was an almost daily occurrence as a kid, we'd wash several times then clean the area with lemon juice. The main reason I'm much more selective about what I catch nowadays has nothing to do with getting bit - I just hate getting musked.
