R&V Works Cajun Fryer

]I just bought one of the 6 Gallon R&V Works fryers, does anyone else have one? How do you like it? I saw it at Stein and just had to have one. I haven't used it yet, I'll probably break it in today sometime.
I have a question about the oil. How do you filter it? I used to work at a restaurant and they had big filters with pumps that would cycle the oil through a filter and a white powder (magnasol) to keep it clean. Obviously I don't need something that big, but I thought something similar would be available. The only thing I've found looks pretty half arse.
I'd like to extend the life of the oil as long as possible, any suggestions?

We use ours quite a bit - I use peanut oil, and about once a month or so drain it through some cheese cloth into a clean bucket, clean the inside of the fryer, dump it back in and add some fresh oil to level it out. I usually change it completely 2-3 times a year. Holds temperature pretty good as well.

not sure... we never filter the oil in my buddies. all the crap falls in that bottom V of the tank and stays away from the heat. I'd suggest maybe straining it with a good wire strainer into a 5 gallon bucket?

I've got that one. We put a valve and tube to drain back into container. We just put filter in funnel and slow drain.
If you let it sit a while after use, the heavier debri settles to bottom which is blow drain
Works well to fry a turkey.

So you leave it in the fryer at all times? I was thinking I needed to filter it every time and put it back in sealed containers. I just bought the frying oil from SAMs, $20 for 4.4 gallons. Hopefully that will work well enough so I don't have to spring for the peanut oil.
Tigers win, you added a second valve, above the existing valve? I think the 8 1/2 gallon has that setup, looks like a good idea.

If you aren't moving it in vehicle , just leave oil in it.

Peanut Oil is not recommended for fryers as it goes rancid faster than vegetable oil(per Cajun Fryer People). Peanut Oil is for higher temps. There are filters and holders that can be bought at any restraunt supply house. I filter mine once a month unless I fry oysters. Than I'll clean it after I fry them. Usuall keep for 6 months and I fry often.

Sounds good to me.
What is the piece of stainless for? I found it in my truck, I am pretty sure it goes with the fryer, it was next to the baskets.

Don't recognized that piece. Mine doesn't have Anything like that.

Mine neither. I have a 4 gallon though. Dont think there is any SS on mine other than hardware. I recommend not leaving the baskets in the oil when not being used. They get pretty funky. I hit mine with hot water and thats it but my water heater is frickin hot!

Damn, that means I have a piece missing from something else.
I'm pretty excited about this thing. It looks to be pretty badass. Can't wait to use it!

Best fryer I've ever used. To drain the oil I use a pipe nipple screwed into the drain and a 90 elbow off of that. I have a plastic gas can that I drain the used oil into. Got this funnel at Academy, it does filter some of the debris out of the bottom but most of it is left behind after draining. I attach a longer piece of PVC and wash out what's left with a garden hose.

We have an old one. We drain the oil through a screen/filter back into the original jug it came in, then freeze it until needed again. Just put the whole jug into the deep freezer. Has worked for us so far and we use the oil for up to a year. Just have to plan a day ahead and take it out of the freezer. It takes a day to thaw out. I imagine that extra piece is to scrape the inside of the fryer to remove the debris. It can get pretty thick. Gerald Horst (biologist/cookbook author) says you can leave the oil in the fryer for up to a year. Seems a little long to me.

A trailer hitch adapter would be awesome for tailgates

I fry right on the tailgate. Take it off the stand and set it on a piece of plywood so oil doesnt soak into my bed liner.

Paint strainers if you feel the need

I use paint strainers from Harbor Freight $5.00 for a 100.
