Question about oak tree roots

Neighbor has a pretty big oak which had some runners into my yard about 20 feet or so from the trunk. We pulled up some smaller runners and a couplr of bigger ones (2 inches) in diameter. Im assuming this will have very little to no effect on the tree itself? Im trying to put some sod down and those bastards made it next to impossible. Thanks.

re: Question about oak tree roots
They'll be fine, I have 3 live oaks in my front yard and had to cut roots fairly close to the trunk on all of them for my irrigation system. This was 3 years ago and I haven't seen any problems

Just be a good neighbor and cut them clean and vertical so they can heal. To cut part way and then tear them horizontally will leave the roots susceptible to disease

bet you a dollar that the sod you lay wont live, the water oak will pull all the water and kill the grass, at least that is what happened in my back yard

Pretty much what happened before trying to replant about 10x10 on side closest to driveway. Oak is on other side of driveway.

Took an ax straight to the bigger ones (again not even that big). Seemed really clean. Just ripped the small quarter inch or so runners as those guys basically formed a matrix on top of my yard.

A tree has roughly the same mass of roots below ground as it has branches above ground. It will be fine unless you destroyed a huge amount of roots.

My neighbor's tallow is send some pretty huge roots to my yard. Normally, I'd want it to die, but it's my main source of shade in the afternoons. I did not check out setting sun when house shopping. Those trees send roots really, really far.

yeah they do. my mow mow had one in her back yard that i built a tree house in when i was a young whipper snapper. i have spent many hours dedicated to eradicating that species from the property since i was old enough to run a power saw.

re: Question about oak tree roots
When I moved into my house I completely torn out my old yard and resoded my lawn. I also have two massive live oaks in my yard. My grass did just fine. I aerate once a year and water a little more than I normally would. If you do those things along with the normal feeding your lawn should be fine.
