Having hard time sleeping. I’ve got to say goodbye to the best dog I’ve ever owned. He was a true water dog. Beaux would’ve been 14 November 1, but it’s time. Doesn’t make it any easier. He was a Christmas present to my five year old son, and will be missed.

Hate that for you man. Nothing is better than a good dog.
I have ashes I want to spread in a duck hole this season, where he had his 1st hunt and picked up his 1st mallard.

My condolences. That's excruciating. I don't even want to think about it. Sending one across the bridge is tough .... heart breaking.

Have been there several times. Just know that it is your final act of love for him. He's going over the rainbow bridge and you are left behind.

Not a thing in the world makes this better until you get the next one and have a wonderful time with him too.

My sincere condolences.

Loosing dogs is something that never gets easy no matter how many times.

No matter how good a life we give them, they can live the longest life possible for them and it's never long enough.

Prayers for you and your family

I lost my 15 year old lab 2 years ago almost to the day. I cried harder when we put her down then I did for any of the humans I've lost in my life. I was actually going through and looking at pictures of her last night and i'll be damned if someone wasn't cutting onions somewhere near me. I'll be praying for you man.

“Dogs’ lives are short, too short, but you know that going in. You know the pain is coming, you’re going to lose a dog, and there’s going to be great anguish, so you live fully in the moment with her, never fail to share her joy or delight in her innocence, because you can’t support the illusion that a dog can be your lifelong companion.
There’s such beauty in the hard honesty of that, in accepting and giving love while always aware that it comes with an unbearable price.” – Dean Koontz

major condolences man, I've had to put down many of mine and it never gets easier. every time my wife cries and says she doesn't want another one, but there are too many dogs out there that need love to NOT get another one.

Thanks for the post guys. It was as bad as I thought it would be. I truly believe the dog was at piece. He lifted his headed once and looked at me as to say it’s okay. Then laid back down until it was over. When I got home my young lab was there excited to see me and do some training in the yard. It was good therapy.

I've been through it once and the trip to the vet wasn't supposed to be the last one. We dropped him off so they could see what was wrong and they basically called later and said it had to be done. I can't imagine how hard it is to bring your dog to the vet knowing what's about to happen.

Prayers brother

You did your faithful dog a kindness sir.

I had an awesome Weimaraner once that had to be put down and I stood there and cried like a baby while it was done.

Amother time, though, I let another good buddy down. A black lab we had for years, I let it go too long, should have acted, but he died on his own and I shouldn’t have let him go through that.

I still feel worse about that than about the one I had put down.

Best wishes.
