Hard to see, phone from 75yds sucks. Top right section, head would touch just above my waist. This is a steep uphill, a bit steeper than a LA levee road.

Only every mt. Lion I've seen or heard about in the Ozarks is smaller than the iconic images from the American west. I've seen some in captivity that were captured, and they are not what I'd consider formidable vs an adult male human.

Not arguing you saw a mountain lion, but calling that a bad pic is an insult to bad.

What do you do? Expect to walk around with a 30x zoom camera or get within 20yds? It's uncommon for me to carry a phone, I'm lucky I got anything.

Sure thing. Adult male humans chase down and kill deer with their teeth and fingernails. Then drag them with their mouth hundreds of yards.

How do so many survive mountain lion attacks?

What I'm saying is the Ozark ones I've seen aren't that big. The ones out west are enormous in comparison.

Also, recent sightings in the same area...

Sightings

At what point did you decide it was a cat, and why? Your first instinct was dog, and the stance looks like a coyote to me, in your pic. I'm not saying you didn't see a mountain lion (as long as you don't say it was black). But, sometimes our minds can play tricks on us with wildlife and woods. Also, you said it was dark brown and had white on it. A lion would be lighter brown, with little to no actual white.

Fwiw, I have been a mountain lion skeptic, the whole idea of them coming down from the Dakotas just seemed so unlikely. I kept telling myself that it wasn't a cat, until it crossed the road. It had a long tail, that it raised and "flicked" like a whip. It looked at me and, while it was a ways away, it most certainly was not canine. I see yotes all the time here.

Also, when I see a coyote, they move in something of a trot. This thing moved smoothly, gliding up the road.

To me, if there's a variable, its that it's a bobcat. But do they ever have tails like that?

Well, it certainly sounds like a cat. I may laugh at the black panther crowd, but mountain lions certainly exist. I don't think all sightings are BS, although I'll bet a large number are misidentifications.

A bobcat would never have a long tail, no. But, are you positive that it wasn't actually a big housecat that was closer to you than you thought? Perspective can be a tricky bitch.

That pic looks halfway almost okay on my phone but it looks way past shitty on a computer.
