I'm trying to set my centipede yard up for success next year and wanted to put down a pre-emergent for the first time. I'm about to buy some simazine and put down but wanted to see if there is anything else I should be doing at this time?

That Simazine is about all ya need. There are some better pre-emergents out there, but they are costly, not available without a pesticide applicator license, and must be used with great accuracy or else turf damage will occur. I use Simazine for my Centipede lawn, fyi.

Simazine works on Bermuda too. Tractor Supply may have it, but if not you may have to go to a more specific lawn/garden store.

I usually try to have pre-emergent down before Thanksgiving.

Yes, works for St Aug.

Anything else need to be done this winter? I was loaded with weeds last year in a newly established centipede lawn.

Make sure to get your pre-emergent down. You can also spot-spray winter broadleaves as they emerge. Less chance for turf damage while your lawn is dormant

With simazine being a liquid you mix how do you apply it? In my head I'm thinking buying a 3 gallon sprayer and just walking all over the lawn spraying every inch. Is that the way you are supposed to do it? Seems like it would take forever and be very hard to make sure every part of the lawn is covered.

Yes, it is a concentrated liquid and must be mixed in solution and applied with a sprayer. I'm sure Scott's, fertilome, and more homeowner friendly companies like that have some sort of granule out there.

Yes, I have been wanting to ask this question for weeks now!!! The flooding from Harvey brought all kinds of trash and has wreck our yard.

How best to go about spot treating right now (assuming mixed centi, bermuda, or st. aug)? Would an application of weed free zone be worthwhile? What about some Image right now?

What are the other reasonable pre-emergent options beyond Simazine?

If cost wasn't an option, what could I mix into a sprayer right now that would really help get things straight for next year?

So boot... Simazine on St. Aug right now? And that’s all that I’ll need until spring rolls around?

Local place here recommended Atrazine instead of Samazine.. thoughts?

I ended up going with Team 2G. got it out last week before the cold snap. im going to spot spry throughout the winter.

I want to reseed areas in the spring. Bootleg, do i spring reseed first then spring preemerg? or do i pre emerg wait the 8 weeks as stated on label then reseed?

quote:

Do not reseed treated areas for at least 8 weeks after a single application of 75 to 100 lb of product (1.5 to 2 lb active ingredient) per acre unless injury can be tolerated, or 12 to 16 weeks after a single application of 100 to 150 lb of product (2 to 3 lb active ingredient) per acre unless injury can be tolerated.
