Long story short, bought a new lews baitcaster and put Power Pro 30 lbs green line, the regular stuff. Went fishing monday and lost three fish because the hook at the knot broke. So fast forward when I got home, went to tie a mono leader to the braid and the knot keeps popping.

Anyone else having problems with power pro? I have heard Marsh Man Masson talking about it a few months back. Any recomendations?

Throw that spool away. It’s a bad batch.

I’ve never had a bad batch of Sufix nor heard of any.

Had the same issue with PP a long time ago. Figured they’d fixed it by now. Guess they haven’t.

I fish 832 braid now. Never had an issue.

Possibly the hook eye cutting the line? Ive had the same issue with the exact same line. Never found a solution. Respooled and got a different brand of hooks. Been okay lately.

Slipping or breaking? When you went straight braid, the HOOK eye was breaking?

For braid to leader go uni to uni. Straight braid palomar is a good knot, along with a snell If using a straight shank.

Brand new braid can be waxy and slick, leave a bit of a tag on it. If the knot is actually breaking then you’re either tying a bad knot, burning it when you cinch, or it’s a bad batch. Have had braid fray but never break like that.

What knot are you tying? The thinner diameter can be a pain with knots slipping

Can’t help you bro. Never had a problem with reg Power Pro or the Slick. What kind of knots you tying? You one of them dudes cuts the tag end down to 10 thousands of an inch or pulls like a gorilla to cinch a knot.

Does your hook have a fully closed eye. Braid will slip through.

Possibly a bad spool. I had this happen once about a year ago, brand new spool of Power Pro and after 2 break offs I realized that there were tiny frays in the line and I could break it off by pulling it. Thought it was something I had done but when I got home checked what was left on the spool and it was all the same. Figured it was just a freak thing.

I’ve used pp my whole life up until last summer. I was having the same problem on a few redfish trips. I switched over to j-braid and I’ve been very happy since then.

Don't throw it away; take it back to where you bought it and get some new stuff.

I did; respooled 4 rods with it and had 4 breakoffs on 3 of the rods; frick Suffix

Are you using the Palomar knot?

1) tie a polymer knot. The regular "twist it 5 times" knot will slip very easily with braid

2) if you are trying a palmer knot correctly, check the line for fraying. If it is frayed, do you have ceramic guides on your rod? If you do, check them closely, I bet you'll find one is cracked and cutting the line

30lb power pro is strong enough to use for anchor line.

I had this exact issue years back and was told it was a bad batch.

As other have said in the thread I switched to 832 and have never had an issue, 5 years and counting.
