Yup, probably just a DeKay's. Awesome, harmless little snakes. I had one as a pet for a while...

Nah man, the world would be a better place if all these rednecks would just assume that a snake is harmless when they aren't sure. Better that a few ignorant necks die than some snakes nobody outside of a few weirdos (and don't lie, y'all like being different) cares about die.

No biggie to me, have at it.

Oh you know like deer hunting & turkey hunting. For many years in Georgia you couldn't hunt deer or turkey because they for the most part did not exist bc of OVER hunting/habitat loss. In the southern half of the state we are simply overloaded with deer. Something my grandfather didn't really get to see until he was much older in life.

Nah, continuing to be ignorant is obviously the best course. Why learn anything new? Exachery why we continue to hate soccerfags.

I'm not championing ignorance (displaying it? Sure). I just don't think it's realistic to expect the general public to be that educated about snakes. People generally don't like them, some of them can eff up your world, and they are hard to tell apart without a lot of experience.
I applaud yalls knowledge and enjoy all the snake posts from both sides.

Yeah, the frustrating thing is that there are basically 4 poisonous snakes in La, only two of which you are likely to see, and they are easily identifiable.

Maybe it isn't realistic for the general public to be able to ID snakes, but as Mung points out there are only 6 venomous species in the entire southeast (3 have rattles, then copperheads, cottonmouths, eastern coral snake).

If we give the general public a pass, I'm not giving one to so-called "outdoorsmen".

I'd never fault someone for feeling the need to kill a venomous species near their home. On the other hand, "outdoorsmen" killing snakes way out in the woods should meet me at Sonic.

You're willing to meet up and fight someone for killing a snake? Jesus I love the Internet

Clearly me saying that was hyperbole, but you may be dumb enough to warrant indulging in Sonic's wonderful drink specials. I'll buy you a chili dog after your whooping.

This is fair, and though I'm a poor excuse for an outdoorsman, I am trying to learn my snakes. I don't kill the ribbon snakes I find, at least, and I will do my damndest not to kill the next rat snake I come across.

The universal phenomenon is people not identifying a snake, then assuming it was poisonous.

The snake was identified.

3. Non-biting house snake is a Pygmy rattler.

Not saying you're wrong, but it's just as plausible that no one was bitten because the snake was lethargic and as a species isn't regarded as particularly aggressive.

Thus, logic gets you to DeKays, which are pretty common, small,
patterned snakes you find in your yard.

It's also logical that since multiple people viewed the snake at very close distance, with access to images of actual pygmy rattlesnakes to compare, while the snake still had a head, that this is not your typical saw snake bashed it with a shovel called it a ground rattler scenario.

This is a sentence I never expected to see.

Beautiful animal. They are the most common snake on my property and not one I'd kill. They are pretty small so the venom isn't all that potent. I like having them around to keep the rodents in check but there is also no chance of them getting in my house.

And again for the folks on the short bus, if the mothrfricker was in the house, I don't give 1 single frick if it turned out to be a fluffy bunny rabbit.

You snake loving, tree hugging democrats can eat two bags of dicks and a rotten a-hole. frick off if you don't like reading about dead snakes. Just because y'all fricking idiots I'll now kill ever snake I see and post it on the OB for you bitchez

I was being sarcastic - that is a picture of my infamous pet Pygmy rattler that I had recently.
