Would anyone hear recommend a Stoeger Coach gun? With little experience it would seem a good choice. Crack the barrel, drop the rounds in, close it up, fire away.

Coach guns are experiencing a resurgence, but the only problem I have with them as home defense is...one shot, you're done. Easy to reload, but still...

The Stoeger Coach Gun is on my list of wants, but my use of it will be limited to boys whenever my daughter starts dating. "Boy, you see that double barrel up there on the mantle? You don't want me to take it down."

I see where you're coming from, TBoy, but I'm going to disagree with you on this one. In most part, what you say is true, but...
quote:

Typical home invader is not a trained assassin,
There are more of the "pro's" than you think. These guys are fast and dangerous, and they DO train.

Case in point, the guy who kicked in my door. From the time he kicked in the back door and chased my son from one end of the house to the other and shots fired was only 10-12 seconds.
quote:

Be ready to fire but don't make splattering guts all over your house your first priority.
I strongly disagree with this. An invasion happens too fast to be making this sort of decision. Unless very highly trained, the millisecond it takes to make that decision can get you killed. You have to keep your mind focused when someone is in your home...it's game on. The event simply evolves too quickly, far quicker than you can ever imagine.
quote:

it is a crack head who is hoping no one is home or awake.
Maybe it would be better to differentiate between a burglar and a home invader. The typical crackhead you mention isn't a home invader...he's a burglar. The burglar just wants some money for his next fix. He doesn't want to hurt anybody. The normal burglar will high-tail it out of there at the first sign your home is occupied. Unfortunately for the burglar, we must assume all entries are home invasions, for our own safety.

Exactly. If you do t want your guts on the outside. Don't break in my house.

Simple concept. I won't shoot you if you stay out.

Bapple,
You were just uncharacteristically late to the party this time.

Truth!

I've been a busy man. Being a social badass and a firearm aficionado at the same time is no walk in the park.

All of my guns are for home defense when I am home. Simple to use would be pump shotgun or a revolver.
