especially for hunting.

Santa came early and brought me a Phantom 3 Standard.

Was goofing around talking with a bud of mine telling him I was gonna tie a drag rag to it and run it over bedding areas luring "Muy Grandes" to my stand (JK of course )but seeing the uses in fishing vids I was just wondering what the OB can come up with to expand on it's usefulness.

Off the top of my head I can see where it would be great to check fields and clearcuts for big uns bedded down with does during the rut before stumbling thru and ruining the hunt on the way to an afternoon stand. (I bowhunt only, so save the pop em if you see em' remarks FWIW )

Come on fellas... I'm all ears

I actually have been wanting to fly one over us when we are in a duck blind to see how it looks in various light conditions, etc...often, people aren't hidden nearly as well as what they think they are.

I plan on using one to scout the property for hogs during the great team alpha beast vs hog war that will be waged after deer season.

Where I turkey hunt there are a lot of pipelines, food plots, and pastures. I'd love to fly it over all those in March and find out which field an ol gobbler is on.

This was one of mine also.

Now if I could just figure out a way to drop tannerite on them bastages from high enough so that it would go off.

I made an offshore fishing video with my phantom

Also plan to get shots of our duck lease.

Get the app "autopilot" and learn how to use it. Can plot automated flight plans, have it follow or orbit you etc. app is like $30 but well worth it

We were supposed to use one to get some awesome shots while we were in SoDak pheasant hunting, I'll leave it at that.

I always thought scouting for ducks from the big boat would be nice. Get to an area where you can't see into the ponds, fly the drone over find out it it's worth paddling in or not. I'm gonna break down and buy one for this reason one day soon.

We took a Phantom to a ranch for opening weekend of Deer hunting in Texas...it spooked a doe as it was eating at a feeder. I think it is too noisy for the most part to get too close to the deer. But still fun to play with.

You'd have to stay far away. Flying right over a turkey with a drone will spook them, even if it's 100' up. I've used them a little on some projects at work, and never seen a turkey just stand and look at it. They are always walking/running away from it.

They are too noisy, will need a quieter model. Tried it and spooked everything we came across. Found some hogs laying in a cut over and as the drone got close enough to see it was hogs they up and gone. maybe if you could fly it higher with a better camera for longer range would help.

Wouldn't that be illegal?

Too noisy. I've flown them over lots of acres filming hunting tracts and farms. Very seldom see deer and when you do they are spooked and crossing an opening.

Can be somewhat useful for ducks, but remember that they watch for hawks/ospreys/eagles and this thing makes a lot of noise.

Best results for actually spotting game have been from 100' or greater and flying into the wind.

The noise is reduced somewhat and I've found that if you fly upwind from up high...you can drop down on ducks if you don't mind pushing them out of the hole.

That said, its useful to know terrain without having to walk it for both ducks and deer. Can definitely scout ducks if you are careful and fly from downwind and never get too close and push them off.

I also think it might be helpful in finding down deer in grass/crp.

Why do you think it would be illegal? The drone doesn't have a gun on it...

Wow. Lots of states have banned using drones for hunting.

Definitely should be illegal. That is as bad, if not worse, than surface drives bumping birds.

Taking photographs and videos is illegal? We better edit that rooster road trip thread then.

I've thought of using one to judge my hide from the air, and see how the ducks are sitting on the water so I can set spreads accordingly.

I always figured it would be too noisy though.
