Would you rather take a trip to start the season off, the middle, or to finish it?

I'm just talking in general. I've done all of them. I think I like starting the season off somewhere else and then coming back here to an open season

I used to hunt every year in deep south Alabama. I would always plan my trip for late December and mid-January. Two reasons: it was usually much colder then and the South Alabama rut usually didn't come in until January. I would hunt here until our season ran out which was usually a month before the Alabama season expired.

I like to go during the peak of that season. We go to Illinois in early/mid November to hit the rut. That way we can open the season in Mississippi, hit the rut in Illinois, then come back for the Mississippi rut

Considering we have one of the later running seasons, Id look for early season (our season) trips. Nivember is slow here but prime time many other places

Do you do this every year or is this just a dream season?

I'd rather travel in October or December/January. I would not want to miss the opening weeks at my AR hunting club which has November rut.

If I still hunted in SE MS, I would gladly travel anytime.

I'd rather do a mid season hunt around Christmas or New Years. The public land I hunt just has so many damned people during the holidays.

Always before our season. There is such outstanding waterfowl hunting in Canada in late-September/early-October, and I've combined it with pronghorns in Wyoming and/or doves in the Dakotas.

By November, work/family/holiday demands keep me here, and by January, I've had enough.

I usually see good numbers of deer early i nthe season - Bow to Thanksgiving and then we have a lull with little activity until the rut kicks off around Christmas / New Years.

So I would plan any travels during the early December time frame to somewhere with better activity.
