You have a link comparing Castrol Edge to Mobil EP and GTX to Havoline?

My grandpa was an lubrication engineer at Mobil for 25 years, and uses GTX ever since the "not really synthetic, or is it synthetic" lawsuits.

Unless you're buying stuff like Lucas, Amsoil, Redline, Royal Purple, Synpower, etc., you aren't gonna have much of a difference between anything in the same class or group or whatever

Castrol is not a great oil.

Care to explain? I've been using it since '91 (20-50).

Castrol is just packaging ConocoPhillips oil, they don't make their own.

If you are just driving around town, you will never tell a difference. I see a difference because I drive 2k miles a week.

But, at the end of the day just use what works for you. Everyone has an opinion on which oil to use. I see the most success in the field from mobile and chevron products. I hate shell products but there are people out there that wouldn't use anything else even if you gave it to them for free.

There are a lot of links out there comparing them but the people publishing them have their own agendas so I don't trust them. Most of my business is Diesel engine oil but I only trust what I can test. Have trucks/vehicles run the oil and then test it.

Castrol has been a quality oil for a long time, especially in racing applications.

It is factory fill for Rolls Royce and Jaguar, to name a few.

Right, but every other time, they don't actually change anything. They laugh while you're inside reading those out of date magazines or playing on your phone.
Actually had this happen to me at the dealership.

Pulled into the local "5 Minute" oil change shop. The tech told me my oil was awfully dirty and should be changed more often. I replied that it had been changed 3,000-4,000 miles previously at the dealer.

The tech showed me the oil filter -- his shop writes the date on the bottom of the filter. The filter he pulled off my truck was the one he installed the last time his shop did an oil change. In the interim the dealer charged me for an oil change that never took place.

I pulled out of the "5 Minute" place," drove straight to the dealer, and told the service manager what I had learned. He "hemmed & hawed," said it was impossible to trust those "quickie oil change places" -- then I showed him the old filter.

Had it been physically possible he might have turned red in the face. He finally acknowledged that I was "possibly correct." He never offered a refund, and I've never been back to that dealer.

My last oil change at the dealer resulted in a new engine.

Dealers are no better that quickie lubes for oil changes.

That said, if it is under warranty, the dealer would be the place to go.

I was talking about the 4-ball wear, Timken bearing, and thermo oxidation tests, which I have seen from a few different independent labs

I typically change regular oil about every 3500 miles...

if I was using synthetic, I would not have a problem going 7000...however, you would still need to have the filter changed every 3500 or so.

Yeah. The only reason I had the dealer do that one oil change was because I was already in there for warranty replacement of a mirror tilt module.

I'm too impatient to sit around for an hour while the dealer fiddles around. The "quickie place I use costs more, but I never have to get out of the vehicle, and am usually gone in ~ 10 minutes.

Yep, castrol has worked for me. But, in a 2000 HP plus diesel motor in a high performance application, there is nothing better than shell rotella or mobile 1. My clients have super deep pockets and rely on the best. I really don't know what you are talking about, but to each his own.
