...or the likes. Can anybody recommend some guides that are trustworthy and good. We want to do a offshore for tuna either all day or overnighter and I've heard horror stories of capts screwing you out of money. Any recommends? we'd be leaving northshore area so anywhere along coast south of NO.
Muchas gracias

I know these guys personally and professionally.

Scott Avenzano
Troy Wetzel
James Peters

They all catch fish and are upfront(atleast to me)about fees. There are a lot of guides that claim to do a good job. I know these three do.

I'd recommend Gray Long...Go Long Charters. Went with him a few months ago and put about 35 yellowfin, blackfin, and bigeye on the boat.

Eddie Burger or Hunter Caballero. I fish in Venice on a regular basis and have a family member that is offshore guide in Venice. Those two guys seem to catch fish when others are not doing too well. Eddie runs a contender and Hunter fishes out of Twin Vee.

That's pretty standard, they will also charge you for fuel which is pretty high right now.

pretty normal for the base charter cost.....as fin said, be sure to get quoted on ice, bait, and fish cleaning which are often extra and can add up to quite a bit of money to the base price....

People usually feel screwed because they are suprised by this kind of thing when the trip is over....just ask up front so you won't be suprised and you'll likely be happy with any of the reputable captains out there....

Plus fuel?? I think he said that covers everything except booze(expected). He said he only pockets about $125 for day trips

You don't want a charter that includes fuel, you want to pay for fuel extra especially this time of year. Reason being, in the summer months you have to run a long way this time of year for tuna like sometimes 100 miles each way. If the gas is included in the up front fee there is the possibility that the guide will not go as far as the fish are as the further he goes the more it eats into his bottom line. If fuel is separate then the guide can go where he wants and find fish with out feeling pressure to only burn X amount of fuel.

I have a bunch of friends that guide with Reel Peace and also Mexico Gulf fishing company. I haven't seen any listed on here that I wouldn't go with.

I went with them two summers ago and that was the worst trip I have ever been on BY FAR!! Capt. devlin is a complete a-hole and we didn't even hook up to any fish... We didn't exclude him to going anywhere bc we paid fuel... We went 110 miles out of Venice and he couldn't put us on even a couple of black fin... I would highly recommend NOT using him at all cost!!

On the other hand I have gone out and slept at rigs over night with capt. Gray long while we were in another boat... He seems to be very nice and knows what he is doing... We would rotate getting at the top end of the chum slick and float back with the current and we ended up both catching a really good amount of fish that night... So like I said seems to be a nice guy and really good to work with..

I've never been on an offshore trip where the price included fuel, you're looking at an additional $1,000.
