I believe the key to the A5 is a proprietary spring, buffer and maybe extension length which the Magpul is lacking at least 2 of those if it is a "clone".

I'm looking at doing a Vltor for Mrs. Midnight's rifle - I don't think there is anything special about the spring - in fact, I think you can just use regular old rifle springs. The buffers are proprietary - and they are pricier at the heavier weights.

How do you guys feel about thread protectors instead of compensators/flash hiders?

Those cats with the JP capture springs

They are ok to run full time in 5.56/223 and 300BLK, suppressed and unsuppressed, subs and supers, correct?

I think they are..I was looking at that and the Vltor system. Went with the Vltor for no real reason other than as I was searching I saw more with it over the JP Spring.

I've ran my 300BLK sbr in all those scenarios with no hiccups. My 5.56 has only been shot unsuppressed and with a 16" barrel, but also runs fine. My sbr stamp is due in the next couple weeks, so I'll let you know shortly if I run into any issues running the 5.56 SBR'd and suppressed

You notice a difference with that JP setup?

As far as felt recoil not really, but it's definitely quieter (especially when suppressed) and makes the rifle feel smoother imo if that makes sense.

It does...I may try it one day to see how it is vs the a5. Is it easier to pull back the charging handle? I was looking at it for my sig ar10...its got a stiff charging handle and with the scope mount its a pita.

For anyone with a 10.5" .223 SBR, what buffer system did you go with?

Spikes ST-T2 buffer...shot 8-10 different types of ammo/bullet weights and not one problem.

Depends on the gas hole diameter and ammo you will be shooting most, but an H1, H2 or H3 buffer will work just fine with the traditional buffer system. I'd start with an H1 and move up from there if necessary.

Going with a Midwest Industries 10.5" complete upper with a carbine gas system.

Just getting a carbine spring from DPMS and a Milspec tube. Or is the VLTOR A5 system worth it?

Anyone in here used a Vortex Spitfire Prism 3x ?

I'm also looking at the Sparc II but I really like the 3x magnification.

TIA

VLTOR

I went with the RE-10 6 position tube becasue I was not going to use vltor or magpuls stock that fits the RE-A5 7 position tube. Youtube has a good vid on the differences of those 2 tubes.

edit: I also got the pistol tube to run for now until I do the form 1. I didnt want to wait a year to shoot it

Nice. I'm used to shooting with 3x mag (USMC RCO) so it looks like this will be my next purchase.

Ahh misunderstanding, thought you meant Vltor offered a JP Capture spring equivalent
