Turned on my ceiling fan last night, all was fine, it wazza turnin'. Left room, came back, it had stopped turning, but I could hear the motor hummin'. Cut switch off/on a few times, pulled the cords, yada yada, couldn't get it to work. Shut switch off for the night, turned on this morning, it worked fine, all speeds,,,,,,,,,,,, for about 5 minutes!

About 4 years old, not a cheap one, has been used probly less than 5 hours total.
Eleck trishuns, what should I do, besides kill it wif fire or judge to the blades?

You should have enough w your social skurity cheks to get u one of them more fancy ones.

You take the housing off and look for any loose wires?

Not yet, been on other things, but, surely that has to be it, right? No breakers tripped, etc., has to be making partial contact, huh?

For about a week, I had me an afreaux in about 71, I'd rather not have anudder.

Hit it with your purse and then put a new fan in there. You can get cheap ones for like $50 without a light and $75 with a light

Dad had one at his house that did the same thing. It had a remote module that went out. I removed the module and all was good.

Check wire connections is all I can think of. We had to change every fan in our house after the first year we moved in. The ones now are going strong and they were cheaper than the first ones.

Mom has a fan in her house that I installed in 1990 and it runs almost every day except in winter time. Still going strong. New fans just suck I think.

It should have a housing where the light kit attaches if it's as fancy as you say (if not most of them are prewired for one). Take off the cover and make sure the terminal connectors are snapped in all the way.

The next thing to check would be if there is a pin or something on the motor shaft to the fan blades.

Possible loose neutral wire would be the last thing I'd check cause it's usually solid copper wire going to stranded wire so sometimes the stranded wire will slip out of the wire nut.

Prob just a loose wire if its running and the stops. If it wouldnt run at all then it might be more of a bigger problem

I wonder if something in the fan's motor circuit is getting hot since it seems to be a delayed issue. If you don't have a good clamp meter it's going to be tough to figure out what the exact issue is.

yup...check the forward reverse switch to make sure you don't have it cocked up...

I've got one in the den did the same thing...since I have two in there I've decided to wait until the other dies before I replace em both...

Do you run the AC when you're not there? I had some issues at my camp last year that I could only attribute to humidity from not running the AC for long periods. I now turn mine up to about 80 when I leave. Doesnt run much but enough to knock the humidity down.

As someone said above check the forward/reverse switch on the side. Had one do the same thing and it turned out to be the switch wasn't all the way in forward. Easy fix.

If it's not a Hunter original and it's humming but not turning, replace it.

Thanks guys, I'll check all of this when I get back.
I never said it was fancy, just that it wasn't a cheap one.

Pull out light kit part. There is a current limiter in them now. They are standard for high efficiency on the light kits. Mine gave me trouble and kept blowing light bulbs and not working anymore. I cut them out now and bypass them. They are a little black box.

If that's not it and its a fan at the camp that's never used there could be corrosion on the contactors from humidity and none use. Next time the switch is on and it won't spin, see if you can jump start by spinning fan blades by hand. If you can you have some wear on the bearings that can not be overcome by the motor. New fan time.

Get a cheap for camps. Sitting up kills them.

I have been to a few away games where I have seen a Tiger fan that has an RV with a ceiling fan hanging off his Truck. Then I saw some pics of it. He must be original or famous.

It hinged from the top of the RV and stood about 6 feet away from it. Saw it quite a few times.
