Red River could reach major flood stage...
quote:

SHREVEPORT, La. The rain keeps falling and the Red River keeps rising. Next week, it could reach levels similar to what we saw in 1990. Around June 5th, the Red River is expected to reach major flood stage at 33 feet.

quote:

Shreveport's flood stage is 30 feet. So at 33 feet, roads, streets, parking lots will flood.

quote:

According to the National Weather Service, the highest the Red River has crested was in 1849 at 45 feet.

I was freaking out at work when I saw my street listed on where the possible tornado was. Tried to call my neighbor and his line was busy for like 20 minutes. That busy signal didn't help. Luckily we only have a few trees down in the neighborhood.

We shall find out what the Haven is made of soon, along with the other neighborhoods built inside the levee.

Speaking of tornado, Im in Henderson, TX right now and they got rocked. Tons of huge trees down and at least 3 through houses on Main St.

I've had the same thoughts on The Haven - but surely they built that area up several feet before building?

Drone video shows rising Red River in Shreveport

We are at capacity and they are calling for an additional 3 feet by next week. It says that level could go higher if we see more rain between now and then.

For those familiar with the bossier side, there is that neighborhood off of Benton rd north of Brownlee that has houses on he other side of the levee. They are very large houses and I remember thinking they would be fricked if the river flooded.

How are they doing?

River Bluff. Drove through there Sunday, they don't look to be in any danger of flooding, even with the rise. My concern would be the integrity of the bank they're built on. They're on the outside of a bend and there is a LOT of current hitting that bank. A few of the houses have floating docks which are barely hanging on.

Yeah back in 91 the Brazos and Navasota Rivers actually became one and the water started flowing backwards up the Navasota

'91 was a big flood year on the east side of the state, rivaled '73 per my old man. I remember picking up chunks and trash out of our bean fields for days. Back in the good ol days my friend.
