Hello all. First off I am from Indiana but I joined here thinkning i might make it down your way to do some fishing. I mostly fish for panfish and catfish. No nothing about any of your lakes or what time would be good to head your way. I enjoy crappie fishing the most. I have a Triton SF-188 with an Opti 150. Any good lake for crappie? Not asking for any honey holes, just a general idea.
Thanks
Mike
Thanks

If you're gonna come down here you have to hit up Toledo Bend. Great white perch(crappie) and bass fishing.

Welcome Mperry... I'll let the real fishermen answer your questions, but just so you know as your browsing the board... and you probably already know this,
but in LA, crappie, white perch and sac-a-lait are all the same fish... their name just varies based on where the human grew up and who teached them how to talk.

How far away from Oakdale is Toledo Bend?

Man if you're going to drive this far I suggest going to Venice and getting the most of what LA has to offer on at least one of your trips.

Ok, I'm 47 years old. I know what WYHI means but what is WHD?

If you are going to be in Oakdale, I suggest Toledo Bend or The Saline/Larto bayue complex near Alexandria. Tons of crappie(white perch) there.

WTF is a panfish?
Welcome. The lakes in the NE section of the state are the best bets for lots of sac-au-lait (crappie); Saline, Larto, and Poverty Pointe. However, if you truly want to experience Louisiana's beauty, you need to make a trip down to the Atchafalaya Spillway. Every sportsman in the US should go there at least once. Even if you don't catch fish, it is worth it.
Venice is further down, and there isn't much crappie action, but you can can catch a limit of bass and redfish (probably the most fun fish to catch) within a few hundred yards of each other. Venice is pretty much the undisputed fishing capital of the world.

Pretty likely. I have a pet gator in my shower.
