Going to buy a new 20ga semi auto for sporting clays, just not sure which one I want. I've narrowed it down to the

Montefeltro
Legacy
A400 Xcel

This will be the gun the girlfriend shoots when she tags along. She went last week and my SBEII beat her up pretty bad, so I want to get something a little easier on her shoulders. Plus, a 20 ga would just be fun to have.

I like the idea of the gas system for the reduction in felt recoil, but I really don't like the Xtra grain stock. But being that we are dropping down to a 20, I don't think the recoil will be that bad anyways.

Does anyone here have any experience with any of those in 20ga? Hunters Run has an A400 xplor I can shoot but nobody I know has the Montefeltro or Legacy.

I just want a semi this go around. Maybe a sub-gauge O/U next time.

That's pretty funny coming from a guy who shot a 16.

I've never had any issues with my SBEII I shoot everything else with.

If it ain't broke don't fix it.

I have the 20 ga Cordoba.

It is my favorite gun. Ever. I've bought and sold a lot of guns over the years. That Cordoba is going nowhere.

The 20 ga SuperSport is basically the same gun.

The 20 ga Legacy is also similar except it doesn't come in a 28" barrel (I think). I would prefer the 28" barrel for sporting clays.

There were some initial bad reports about the A400 in 20 ga. I think they've all been fixed.

Where do you normally shoot? We could maybe meet up and I'll let you test out the Cordoba.

Not a typo. It was out of 50, not 100. Regardless, that's some piss poor shooting.

I've read good things about the Cordoba, I am just wanting something with a wood stock. I'm a big fan of nice grain. Me and Civiltiger07 shoot Thursdays at Hunters Run. Come by and grab a beer.

It's really the only place I have ever shot. I think they do a decent job. Lots of different shots and they switch them up pretty good every week.

It's obviously not some fancy setup where they are coming out of the woods or anything, but I enjoy it for what it is. The people are nice and the beer is cold, it's a good time.

at first i read this as "16 ga".
hijack: why isn't the 16 ga discussed on the OB more often? it is (was) a great all around bird ga.

I think the ammo is like twice the price. That's pretty off putting. Only a few guns are even made in 16ga, nobody has them.

true. but it is still a good bird gauge. i really don't understand why it ever fell out of popularity.

Shooting Competitions don't have a class for 16ga. That is probably the largest contributing factor.

i didn't think of that. kinda goofy since 16 gauge was a classic to use for bird hunters.

I have shot a 20 ga supersport and a400 and liked them both. The black superpsort is no maintenance. I would find the one that fits you best and go from there.
There is someone who shoots the 20 ga supersport at a clays course I go too and he loves it but he is also outshot by someone w/ a $400 20ga weatherby semi, so its generally the indian and not the arrow ;)

I bought my 13yr old daughter a 20 ga weatherby last yr and put a youth stock on it and it fits her well. If she continues to shoot I will upgrade but for a starter gun its a good value.

RST shotgun shells makes a premium shotgun shell for all gauges except .410 at a mid grade price point. They make shells for older guns with lower pressure, lower recoil etc and ship direct from the manufacturer...

I guess $110 isn't too bad for a case if you really have the desire to shoot a 16. I try to stay in the $60 range though.
