Is there a reason you don't want a pump? Get you're self a 870 and go shoot skeet on a weekend with the plug out. Practice on shooting as many as fast as you can. I've gotten to the point with my pump that I can spit out 3 rounds just as fast as my brother with his semi-auto browning.

What about barrel length? I don't hunt Geese so I would assume the 28" is fine.

Been using a Browning Silver Hunter that I like a lot. You may be able to find a used one in your price range, but maybe not.

I have a browning gold hunter and enjoy it. I am looking to eventually step up to the maxus, but have had no problems with my gold hunter.

x2, I have 2 gold hunters and Maxus.

Gold hunter mounts well out of the box. I got each for $550-600 on gun broker. Use skeet range across the river for FFL, reasonable.

Where do you guys go to get use guns? Do most hunting stores have used guns?

gunbroker.com

Seriously, if you are relying on brick and mortar stores you are limiting yourself.

I've used Bud's Gun Shop, but never Gunbroker. Buds has a local FFL on file and it's really easy. I feel like gunbroker you don't always know who you're dealing with.

I've bought several guns from folks on facebook sites lately. Have ran up on some helluva deals and some that were decent buys. But I still try to give local stores some business when I can

Try gunbroker. Just got an urika 2, 28" 12 synthetic for $750. Gun looks brand new. Included hard case and 5 chokes. Hard to beat for duck blinds and under truck seat.

I've been shooting sportIng clays on a year-around basis for over a decade. For a majority of this time I've used a Beretta U or U2, with the U2 having the most use. This use is anywhere from twenty-five hundred to over five thousand rounds thru it per year. Three yeas back I had a guy from delaware who had a booth set up at one of the shoots put new springs in it. Never any problems. You get what you pay for.
Good luck
